Kingsman: The Blue Blood – Cast, Plot & Everything We Know So Far

Kingsman: The Blue Blood – Cast, Plot & Everything We Know So Far

Director Matthew Vaughn has stated he wants to continue his action franchise, and news on what’s happening with Kingsman 4, Kingsman: The Blue Blood, has been in incredibly high demand. First released domestically on December 22, 2021, The King’s Man marked the third Kingsman movie to date, with it drawing a decidedly mixed critical reception. Yet these middling reviews have done little to dampen Vaughn’s or 20th Century Studios’, desire for more suave spy action, and there will be a Kingsman 4 coming sometime in the future. Unfortunately, it’s been delayed and filming has yet to begin, pushing back Kingsman: The Blue Blood to an unknown date

Vaughn’s grand vision for the Kingsman franchise is far-reaching, with several sequel plans already in place. The new Kingsman movie is confirmed to be Kingsman: The Blue Blood, rather than a followup to the prequel The Kings Man (The Blue Blood will be Kingsman 3, but Kingsman 4 if The Kings Man is counted, as most do). Initially set for a 2023 release date, the new Kingsman movie will definitively serve as the conclusion of Harry Hart’s (Colin Firth) and Eggsy’s (Taron Egerton) tumultuous relationship, although other plot details remain scant. Vaughn has also touted several stars to join in on the espionage action, with Dwayne Johnson and Mark Strong two names floated to interact with the Kingsman service this time around.

The Kingsman 4 Recent News

The most recent Kingsman 4 news came from Taron Egerton himself. He had previously mentioned that the movie would start filming in 2023, but it’s unlikely this will still be the case given the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Egerton made the comments during an interview about how he won’t be playing Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, the talk eventually moved around to Kingsman 4 news. Egerton elaborated what he wants to see from Kingsman: The Blue Blood. He said that the movie needs to be a different concept since Eggsy is no longer a kid like he was in the first coming-of-age story (via Radio Times).

“Now it’s 10 years on, I’m 10 years older, so I’d want it to be a different kind of story. I’d want it to be about that character, as opposed to just about saving the world.”

Kingsman: The Blue Blood is Confirmed

Kingsman: The Blue Blood has been in the works for many years. Matthew Vaughn has been talking about the movie since May 2017 and has kept talking about it since he wrote The Golden Circle. In 2019, Taron Egerton said there was a script and then in 2021, Vaughn revealed the title of the movie. However, while this confirms the movie is in the pipeline, the production team has talked about it for years now. The new Kingsman movie was supposed to film in 2023, but it never got started. The Kingsman 4 release date remains unknown.

Kingsman: The Blue Blood Release Date

While the new Kingsman movie was set to be released in 2023, filming hasn’t even started. For whatever reason, production has been consistently delayed for Kingsman: The Blue Blood. Production for Kingsman 4 was supposed to begin all the way back in 2019. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, filming was pushed back. It’s yet to be resumed, with no real explanation on why development on the next Kingsman movie has become so drawn out (especially since the prior three Kingsman franchise entries became incredibly successful).

Kingsman actor Taron Egerton later revealed that filming would begin in 2023. The official title for the new Kingsman movie, Kingsman: The Blue Blood, was announced in 2020, and audiences finally got another update in 2021, with director Matthew Vaughn saying that production would begin in September 2022. These constant delays don’t bode well for the new Kingsman movie, possibly pushing the release date even farther into 2024, years after its initial projected release.

Kingsman: The Blue Blood Cast

Outside the new Kingsman movie story, there are also several big names linked with the Kingsman 4 cast. Kingsman‘s Colin Firth, Taron Egerton, Hanna Alström, and Channing Tatum are all set to reprise their previous roles from The Golden Circle. Franchise director Matthew Vaughn has also not been shy about his desire to see Dwayne Johnson take on an unnamed role as The Blue Blood‘s primary villain. There is also a chance that Halle Berry returns as Ginger as well.

There has also been some talk of Mark Strong reprising his role as Hamish Mycroft/Merlin in the Kingsman 4 cast, although quite how this would be accomplished remains to be seen given his demise via landmine at the end of The Golden Circle. Regardless of who fills these currently vacant roles, Kingsman: The Blue Blood is set to be a rip-roaring conclusion Harry and Eggsy’s story.

Kingsman 4 Story

After setting up the Kingsman organization’s origins in The King’s Man, the Kingsman 4 story will return to the present day. Set to directly follow the events of Kingsman: The Golden Circle, the new Kingsman movie will focus on Harry and Eggsy’s increasingly paternal bond while also likely bringing back Tilde (Hanna Alström) and Tequila (Channing Tatum), who joined the Kingsman at the end of The Golden Circle. While other plot details remain few and far between, Vaughn confirmed Kingsman 4: The Blue Blood will be the last linear new Kingsman movie, hinting at a climactic and engrossing finale for the franchise’s first film series.

Given how successful the three franchise films have been so far (despite some of the glaring mistakes in Kingsman: The Golden Circle and The King’s Man), it may come as a bit of a surprise that the new Kingsman movie is intended to be the final installment of Harry and Eggsy’s story. However, this is a very savvy call on Vaughn’s part. For one, it allows Colin Firth and Taron Egerton’s characters to quit while they’re ahead, rather than becoming pantomimes of the interesting characters they once were as the film series wears on and on.

Likewise, by focusing instead on compelling spinoff projects like the Statesmen and The King’s Man‘s earlier historical timeline, the entire franchise can avoid the pitfall that big studios like Marvel seem to be slipping into — namely piling onto one central story too much. The Kingsman movies won’t be beholden to the story that the first film began, and the trilogy format offers a tried-and-true method for that story to come to its natural conclusion instead. Until then, Kingsman: The Blue Blood is the next known installment.
