Kingpin Actor Reacts To Netflix’s Daredevil Streaming On Disney+

Kingpin actor Vincent D’Onofrio reacts to Daredevil being available to stream on Disney+. Daredevil was the beginning of Netflix’s Marvel universe, which eventually expanded into more shows, including Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders, and The Punisher. D’Onofrio had made a successful career in acting before joining Netflix’s Daredevil, but Kingpin has become one of his most popular roles. The character was the main antagonist in Daredevil season 1 before returning to face Matt Murdock again in season 3.

Despite Daredevil season 3 setting up season 4, the show didn’t continue with Netflix canceling all of their Marvel shows in late 2018 and early 2019. However, both D’Onofrio’s Kingpin and Charlie Cox’s Daredevil have since been officially introduced in the MCU. Kingpin turned out to be the big bad in Hawkeye, with D’Onofrio’s character being revealed at the very end of episode 5, “Ronin.” Cox then made a surprise cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home just a few days later when the sequel hit theaters. Just last month, the Defenders shows as well as Agents of SHIELD were moved from Netflix to Disney+, resulting in the streaming service getting its first TV-MA series.

Many were relieved when the Marvel shows found their permanent home on Disney+, and D’Onofrio is also delighted to see fans enjoying his series. The actor posted his reaction to fans watching Daredevil on Disney+ and expressed how enjoyable it was making with the series with Cox. D’Onofrio’s original post can be seen below:

Most of Netflix’s Marvel shows, Daredevil specifically, got positive reviews, so it was a bit of a surprise when it was revealed they were all being canceled. That being said, it was widely assumed it was because Disney was planning on adding the characters to the MCU. Thankfully, the studio listened to fans and opted not to recast Daredevil and Kingpin, which likely would have seen a lot of backlash. Kingpin and Daredevil haven’t had huge roles since being added to the MCU, but their introduction likely means the studio is planning on including them in more projects. Maya Lopez seemingly killed Kingpin in Hawkeye‘s finale, yet it is widely rumored he will be an antagonist in the Echo spinoff show. Likewise, Daredevil season 4 is reportedly in the works despite Disney not having officially confirmed the news.

It’s unclear when exactly Daredevil and Kingpin will return and if characters like Jessica Jones and The Punisher will ever be reintroduced. However, D’Onofrio is likely right that the series coming to Disney+ has gotten them even more fans. Netflix still outranks Disney+ in terms of subscribers, but the major news of the shows moving streaming platforms undoubtedly pulled in new audiences who hadn’t gotten a chance to watch the Marvel shows. It certainly seems like Disney already has plans for future Daredevil and Kingpin appearances. Still, the original Daredevil series getting more views on Disney+ just reiterates to the studio that Marvel fans are still interested in these characters.
