Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes ScreenX Poster Highlights Humanity’s Fall [EXCLUSIVE]

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is coming to ScreenX, and Screen Rant has a first look at the poster. The fourth film in the Planet of the Apes reboot continuity that began with 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes was directed by Wes Ball (The Maze Runner trilogy) and written by Patrick Aison (Prey), Josh Friedman (Foundation), and Rick Jaffa (Jurassic World). Jaffa also served as a writer on Rise of the Planet of the Apes and its sequel Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

Screen Rant presents a look at the ScreenX poster for the upcoming movie. The Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes trailer promises a clash of ideals set among the remnants of humanity. Those remnants are on full display in the poster, which sees Owen Teague’s character Noa riding through an overgrown human city. Check out the poster below, and get ready to watch the movie in the unique ScreenX format when it releases in theaters on May 10.

Do You Need To See Any Other Movies Before Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes?

The Planet of the Apes timeline is long, and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is the 10th movie in the franchise. Thankfully, it’s only the fourth movie in the franchise’s rebooted timeline, so a rewatch of the 1968 original and its sequels is unnecessary. In addition, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is set 300 years after the film it follows, giving audiences a somewhat fresh way to start the series if they haven’t seen other entries.

Though the events of the other three reboot timelines movies are referenced in this newest venture, the Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes cast is wholly different from its predecessors. Freya Allan’s human character Mae, Kevin Durand’s villainous ape Proximus Caesar, and William H. Macy’s mysterious character themselves only have limited knowledge of the events of the previous films. All an audience truly needs to know is that humanity has long ago fallen to a race of super-intelligent apes, and that is easy to glean from the trailer.

There is a benefit to watching the previous movies in this timeline if only to enrich the experience of watching Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. In Owen Teague’s interview with Screen Rant about the movie, the actor revealed the effort he and the filmmakers put into making the movie feel consistent with those that came before it, but it’s still a new story and a new era. New fans can always see Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes in theaters and decide then if they want to add that extra context.
