Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes Finally Restores A Missing Part Of The Original Movies

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will feature a key element from the original Planet of the Apes movie, which provides a key indicator of how far ape society has advanced since the days of Caesar. It’s been revealed where Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes falls on the timeline; 300 years after the events of the most recent trilogy. In 300 years, ape society has certainly moved beyond the simple familial structure that Caesar championed, but one key factor shows exactly how far it has come.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes‘ new ruler leads what appears to be a functional beachside society of apes, and to cement his rule, he has amassed an advanced array of weapons that progress well beyond whittled wooden spears. It appears that he has even rediscovered electricity, as the movie’s trailer features apes using taser-like weapons on other apes. However, the character of Proximus Caesar in particular shows even more specific evidence of how far ape society has come.

Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes’ Timeline Is Better Than A True Sequel After The $1.68 Billion Franchise’s Ending

The drastic time jump that Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will make is a far better option than a direct follow-up to the reboot trilogy.

Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes Gives A Few Apes More Clothing

It’s an indicator of the progress of ape society.

Proximus Caesar (Kevin Durand) addresses his people in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes

In the original Planet of the Apes, all the apes walked entirely upright and wore clothing at all times. They essentially had replicated modern human society, but with apes in control. The apes of the recent prequel trilogy, on the other hand, wore almost no clothing. The level of clothing that the apes wear is a good indication of where they are in their society’s development, and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will see more apes donning clothing.

Proximus Caesar, in particular, seems to be among the most-dressed apes in the movie. In his case, the clothing is likely representative of his elevated status as the ruler of the beachside society. The trailer does feature other apes wearing articles of clothing, including the franchise’s new lead hero, Noa, who wears a gauntlet that he uses for falconry. Other apes of higher importance appear to have adopted accessories or jewelry, but no apes appear to be wearing the full body robes and outfits that the apes of Planet of the Apes did.

The Apes’ Lack Of Clothing Shows Planet Of The Apes Is Still Far Away From The Original Setting

Ape society has not yet advanced to the time frame shown in the original Planet of the Apes.

The advance of ape society is moving far quicker than humanity’s natural evolution thanks to their increased intelligence from the ALZ-113 “cure” developed by Will Rodman in Rise of the Planet of the Apes. However, the overall lack of clothed apes in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes proves just how far away the current narrative is from the temporal setting of the original Planet of the Apes. By and large, the average apes of society appear to be entirely unclothed, as was the case in Caesar’s civilization during the prequel trilogy.

The increased speed of societal evolution for the apes means that Kingdom is likely at least a few decades or more behind the time period in which George Taylor crash lands on Earth. There’s been speculation that the Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes would take the narrative up to the time of the original movie, but that may not be the case based on the apes’ clothing style. It is possible that the new movies will simply retcon some of the elements of the original movie, but that seems unlikely given the beloved nature of the 1968 classic.
