At the 2022 Oscars, Kourtney Kardashian became the first of The Kardashians stars to attend the ceremony, and her sister Kim reportedly wishes it was her instead. At the prestigious ceremony, Kourtney appeared dressed in an elegant black gown on the red carpet with her fiance Travis Barker. The Blink 182 drummer performed on stage with a live band providing music during the ceremony, like Shawn Mendes’ “Wonder,” before the singer took the stage to present the award for Best Adapted Screenplay. The two later appeared at the Vanity Fair afterparty, joined by Kourtney’s sisters Kim, Khloé, and Kendall. Kim posed for cameras in a blue Balenciaga gown and was later seen hanging out with Kendall and her BFF, Hailey Bieber.
While the Kardashian-Jenners are generally supportive of each other — Kim even posted a supportive Instagram story of Kourtney and Travis at the Oscars–the family has also been known to be quite competitive. In the trailer for their new Hulu series, Kris Jenner reveals that both Kendall and Kim are being considered for the cover of American Vogue. Kim, in a sit-down confessional, jokingly confessed that she would have “murdered” her sister for the cover. Luckily for Kendall, Kim was chosen for the March 2022 cover, and no harm was done. However, Kim did not win the opportunity to attend the Oscars, and allegedly she wishes she would have.
The star, who posted a series of photos in her Balenciaga gown and captioned it “OSCARS 2022,” reportedly would’ve loved to be the first Kardashian to get an Academy Awards invite. According to The US Sun, Kim fears that her older sister may be becoming more relevant than her, and her Oscars appearance could be confirmation. An insider told the publication, “Kim is so happy for Kourtney but part of her wonders if she is slipping on the social scale.” While Kim has been in the headlines quite a lot recently, it’s been mostly about her messy divorce from Kanye West, while Kourtney seems to be receiving lots of positive attention. Apparently, the KKW Beauty founder desperately seeks the approval of Hollywood’s elite, and being invited to the ceremony would have made her feel like she’s being taken seriously.
Since the start of the Kardashian-Jenner’s careers, Kim has struggled with being taken seriously, and the public has undercut her hard work and success as a result of her leaked sex tape with Ray J. While she’s arguably the most successful reality tv star in the history of reality television, she’s often belittled in Hollywood. However, according to another source, Kim still had a great time at the Vanity Fair afterparty and celebrating with Jay-Z and Beyonce at their Chateau Marmont event. The reality star later went to Madonna’s private bash with sisters Kendall and Khloé.
It’s always been all about Kim in the Kardashian-Jenner world, but could that be changing now that Kourtney’s grabbing some positive attention? Knowing Kim, she’d never allow anyone to upstage her. While Kim publicly supported her sister on Instagram, the two were known to bump heads on television, and it’s possible she’s secretly hoping she’ll replace Kourtney on the 2023 Oscars red carpet. Hopefully, all is well in The Kardashians stars’ world, and Kim isn’t actually too jealous of her older sister. After all, there’s always room for more Kardashians at the Oscars at future ceremonies.
