Kim K Calls Her Love of Fame Embarrassing, Shifts Focus to Prison Reform

Keeping Up with the Kardashians star Kim Kardashian recently called her love of fame embarrassing, and explained that’s why she’s been shifting her focus to prison reform. The reality TV personality is currently studying to become a lawyer.

Kim has been in the public eye ever since she was Paris Hilton’s personal stylist more than a decade ago, appearing on Hilton and Nicole Richie’s reality TV show The Simple Life, and in countless paparazzi photos. But she was officially launched into the spotlight after the premiere of her own show, Keeping Up with the Kardashians, in 2007 – and has been there ever since. Recently, the Vogue cover star opened up about her obsession with fame and why she’s decided to shift her focus.

In an interview with her husband Kanye West for Vogue Arabia, Kim admitted that money was always her goal but that she was “obsessed with fame, like, embarrassingly obsessed.” She said that she agreed with the adage that fame can be addictive, implying she was at one point addicted to fame. But now, Kim explained, she was shifting her focus to prison reform. She recently worked with the White House to free a woman, Alice Marie Johnson, from prison after she’d been sentenced to life without parole for federal drug and money laundering charges.

Kim is also focusing on her law degree. She’s currently studying to take the bar exam in 2022. In about ten years, she said, she plans on “giving up being Kim K” and making criminal justice her main purpose in life. She wants to be a full-time attorney and “fight for so many deserving people.” Some of the inspiration for this life change comes from her late father, Robert, who was an attorney, Kim explained. He taught her to “really commit” and work hard and she wants to eventually follow in his footsteps.

It’s been a wild decade for Kim, who told Vogue she wouldn’t take any of it back – despite sometimes wanting some more privacy. But she has no regrets about becoming super famous, because she’s been able to help and inspire so many people. Considering she’s been able to build such an expansive empire in such a short amount of time, it’ll be interesting to see how many people she’s able to help when she becomes a lawyer. Hopefully, more celebrities take a page out of her book and start helping people in more meaningful and concrete ways.
