Kevin Smith Teases Masters Of The Universe Show Premiere Announcement

Kevin Smith, the director of Netflix’s Masters of the Universe: Revelation sequel series, says a release date announcement is coming soon. Smith has said the long-awaited show is a direct sequel to the original Masters of the Universe animated series that ended in 1985. The show not only features credibility in the form of Smith, but also thanks to its stellar voice cast. From Mark Hamill as Skeletor to Tony Todd’s “unsettling performance” as Scare Glow and Game of Thrones star Lena Headey as Evil-Lynn, the series is stuffed with big names.

Masters of the Universe: Revelation has been in production since 2019, and Smith has slowly been teasing information over the past year as he works on post-production. Back in August of 2020, he revealed Netflix didn’t have a release date and said a trailer would only be released six to nine months later. For those counting, it’s now seven months later, and neither a release date nor a trailer has been revealed. But, Smith recently teased Masters of the Universe: Revelation is close to release, and a date will be forthcoming soon.

Speaking on his podcast Fatman Beyond (via ComicBook), Smith says he’s known the release date for some time now, but can’t reveal it. However, he can say that Netflix is very close to announcing it, and that Masters of the Universe: Revelation will be with audiences in the next few months. Smith makes it clear viewers won’t have to wait too long until the release date is revealed but doubles down on the fact he is being forced to stay tight-lipped about it. You can read Smith’s full comments below:

Then when Masters of the Universe: Revelation drops on Netflix very, within the next few months kids…There’ll be an announcement soon, they won’t let me say anything. I’ve known for a while but they won’t let me say anything.

The tease will be frustrating for audiences who grew up on the show and can’t wait to see what Smith, a self-avowed superfan of the original animated series, will do with the characters. A video reveal of the Masters of the Universe: Revelation score by The Walking Dead’s Bear McCreary hinted Smith is not reinventing the universe, but rather paying tribute to it and expanding on it for a new generation, something audiences are likely to be incredibly happy about.

But beyond that small snippet, in which Chris Wood as Prince Adam/He-Man can be heard uttering the famous words “by the Power of Greyskull,” little has been revealed about Masters of the Universe: Revelation. Luckily, it sounds like that should change soon. Once a release date is confirmed, expect the first footage and a trailer to follow swiftly, as Netflix likes to get the promotional machine into full gear once audiences have a firm date.
