Kevin Feige Won’t Advise Other Producers on How to Replicate Marvel’s Success

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige declines to give any kind of advice to his peers in the industry with regard to building a successful cinematic universe. On the heels of the release of their 20th movie, Ant-Man & The Wasp, over the course of 10 years, the MCU is enjoying unparalleled success when it comes to Hollywood franchises. Starting with 2008’s Iron Man, the film series has exponentially grown over the last decade with a slew of critical and box office successes now worth $16 billion.

Celebrating their 10th anniversary this year, Feige is coming off of three smash hits in Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War and Ant-Man & The Wasp. Given the sustainable business model that Feige pioneered, it makes sense that other studios are trying to emulate what they’re able to accomplish, but no one has come close to the level of love and success that the MCU has reached.

In an interview with Daily News, Feige refuses to give any kind of advice to other Hollywood producers on how to run their franchises in order to achieve the success that the MCU enjoys right now. Particularly talking about Lucasfilm and Kathleen Kennedy, who suffered their first flop in Solo: A Star Wars Story, the Marvel boss explains that not only is he not the type of person to give pieces of advice, it’s also difficult to give out pointers considering that each film series are different from each other.

“No. I’ve learned in my time being lucky enough to make movies, unless you’re in the thick of it, unless you’re in the shoes, you don’t know what’s going on. Advice doesn’t mean anything. Circumstances can be different everywhere, and to predict what an issue was or who’s doing what . . . I’m just not the kind of person to give advice to people.

However, Feige reiterates that it’s all hard work. Regardless of whatever franchise and the degree of their critical and box office success, what people behind these interconnected film series are doing is tough.

“Because it’s all precarious, right? It’s all difficult, it’s all hard. All my time is spent trying to deliver the projects we’re overseeing and are in charge of. Many people, and particularly Disney, have had great success, success that rivals or surpasses our own. I want advice from them!”

It was a clever move for Feige to refuse to give any answer considering how sensitive the subject is to other fans that some of them would ultimately take his message as gloating. Then again, if there’s anyone who’s qualified to talk about this particular issue, it’s the Marvel Studios head honcho as his work speaks for itself. Despite being the president of the multi-billion studio, he remains very much involved in the process of creating their movies – from its conception all the way to its promotion. And while not everyone is a fan of the MCU, it would be unfair not to acknowledge its significant impact on how Hollywood makes its movies right now.
