Kevin Feige Has Been Wanting To Make Moon Knight For A Very Long Time

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige says he’s been wanting to make Moon Knight for a very long time. The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s next live-action Disney+ series to be released as part of Phase Four, Moon Knight, is set to premiere on March 30. The six-episode limited series was first announced in 2019. Following months of casting rumors, Oscar Isaac was confirmed to star in 2020.

Isaac stars as Moon Knight’s titular vigilante, who inherits powers from the Egyptian moon god Khonshu. The series’ trailers have introduced Steven Grant, a mild-mannered gift shop employee unaware of his dissociative identity disorder and, in turn, his alternate personas including the mercenary Marc Spector and/or Moon Knight. In addition to Isaac, the cast includes Ethan Hawke as cult leader Arthur Harrow, Lucy Thackeray, May Calamawy, and the late Gaspard Ulliel as Anton Mogart/Midnight Man. Jeremy Slater leads Moon Knight as showrunner and Egyptian filmmaker Mohamed Diab heads the series’ directorial team, consisting of Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead.

While attending Moon Knight’s red-carpet premiere in Los Angeles, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige told fans he’s been wanting to make a series centering on the Fist of Khonshu for a very long time. “I’m extremely excited for you to see Oscar Issac, Ethan Hawke, the entire, amazing cast of Moon Knight,” said Feige in a video uploaded by Redditor u/Wallcrawlingspidey. “I’ve been thinking about making a Moon Knight film or show for a very long time, and we’re actually debuting it tonight, and I’m very excited for you to see it.

Kevin Feige Has Been Wanting To Make Moon Knight For A Very Long Time

On top of helping to produce films like the original X-Men movie and Sony’s Spider-Man trilogy, Feige has produced every film for Marvel Studios since the MCU’s conception with Iron Man in 2008. In 2019, Feige was also named Chief Creative Officer for Marvel Comics, Marvel Television, and Marvel Animation. It’s clear that Feige has been thinking about depicting various comic book characters on screen for a while so there’s no telling exactly how long he’s wanted Moon Knight to get the live-action treatment.

For the most part, the MCU has felt extraordinarily mapped out. Feige has even asserted that Phase Four’s ever-evolving multiverse was always a part of the plan. Since Disney/Marvel Studios’ acquisition of Fox’s characters and those that Netflix once owned, pretty much every Marvel character—outside of Spider-Man— is under the control of Feige and company. Despite the wider universe, Moon Knight focuses on its origin story, establishing Stephen Grant/Marc Spector as a force to be reckoned with. In the past, Moon Knight has endured comparisons to DC’s Batman and, therefore, has largely been overlooked. The series should give its character time to shine as it pushes the tonal boundaries of the MCU. If early reactions are any indication, Moon Knight should be in the MCU for quite some time.
