All Elite Wrestling is doing all it can to put the events of All Out in the rearview, but Kenny Omega’s recent comments are still noteworthy. That’s because virtually everyone involved has declined to speak about what happened. Tony Khan has been pressed in practically every interview he’s done since September 4 to talk about the events, and he’s declined every time. The Young Bucks have been similarly silent, and CM Punk has only referenced what went down in passing while calling an MMA show. Omega didn’t go in for a shoot by any stretch, but it still gives insight into where his head is after his return at Full Gear.
Speaking to Sports Illustrated, The Best Bout Machine had this to say about Punk: “This isn’t Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks against CM Punk. It is people trying to show off their craft. You can boo Kenny Omega, or the Young Bucks, or CM Punk, but I hope people don’t forget we’re human beings struggling to show our art.” Kenny Omega also stated that “There are things no one can talk about, so I’d encourage people to let it go,” referencing the alleged fight that occurred following Punk’s All Out media scrum. “I encourage people to move away from it because there is no information to be released.“
Silence Might Be Best For AEW’s Business Right Now
Keeping up with AEW’s backstage issues has become time-consuming and complicated. Getting a bit of real-life injected into professional wrestling isn’t bad, but the list of performers who have had issues over the last several months is staggering. The biggest headline grabber was CM Punk going nuclear on The Elite following All Out. Yet the likes of Miro, Andrade El Idolo, Malakai Black, Sammy Guevara, Thunder Rosa, Eddie Kingston, and Britt Baker have all made headlines for having heat or issues of some kind over the last six months. That’s a lot to keep up with. Sadly, it distracts from what’s going on in the ring.
All Out seemed like a genuine step forward for AEW. Omega and The Young Bucks returned, and their match against Death Triangle was an instant classic. MJF and Jamie Hayter being the top champions is also a refreshing look for the company. Jon Moxley has been a splendid champion, but the time had come for a change of pace. Even though he didn’t seem to like dropping the title very much. Tack on The Acclaimed as tag-team champions, and there’s a lot to like for AEW fans moving forward. There isn’t another All Elite Wrestling branded pay-per-view until March or so, so Tony Khan has all the time in the world to start reshaping the company heading into 2023. It’s shaping up to be a good year for the company and AEW fans.
