Kelsey Grammer’s Deep-Cut Frasier Reboot Season 2 Dream Guest Would Solve Its Daphne Problem

Kelsey Grammer’s Deep-Cut Frasier Reboot Season 2 Dream Guest Would Solve Its Daphne Problem

Kelsey Grammer wants to bring back an original cast member in the Frasier reboot season 2, and if he achieves the cameo that he wants, their appearance could help solve its big Daphne issue. Despite the mixed response to the Frasier reboot season 1, Paramount+ is continuing the show with a sophomore-year order. It’s currently uncertain when new episodes of the revival will be released and what storylines Grammer and his team are planning for the snooty psychiatrist-turned-Harvard guest lecturer. That being said, the actor/producer has shared some of his hopes for the Frasier reboot season 2.

Aside from spearheading the project in front of the camera, Grammer also serves as an executive producer for the Paramount+ endeavor. Between this and his ties with other legacy characters from both Cheers and the original Frasier, he naturally has some ideas about possible cameos. He has expressed his desire to see Ted Danson’s Sam and Shelley Long’s Diane reunite with Frasier as he continues his final act in Boston. Most recently, however, Grammer floated the idea that Brian Cox might reprise his role as Harry Moon — Daphne’s father in Frasier reboot season 2, which would be a treat to see.

The primary cast of Cheers reunited in 2024, and it secretly highlights the Frasier reboot’s weirdest crime when depicting Frasier Crane.

Cox’s Harry Moon Could Partially Solve Frasier Reboot’s Daphne Problem

Brian Cox as Harry Moon looking shocked on Frasier

The original Frasier show introduced the Moon patriarch in season 9, just before Daphne and Niles got married. Separated from his wife, Frasier’s brother attempted to reconcile his future in-laws for his lady love. Cox only appeared as Harry Moon twice, but he clearly made an impression on Grammer that he wants to bring the character back for the new show. Doing so would help the revival resolve its glaring Daphne issue. Like David Hyde Pierce, Jane Leeves opted out of appearing in the Frasier reboot, leaving David Moon-Crane not having his parents around.

That said, with both Frasier and Freddy in Boston with him, David remains in touch with his father’s side of the family. Since Daphne’s appearance seems to be off the table for now, bringing in Grandpa Moon would be a great way to represent the clan in the Frasier reboot. Based on what’s revealed thus far, David grew up in Seattle with the Cranes, but while he is mostly reminiscent of Niles, he has some of the Moons’ qualities. Unfortunately, it’s difficult to highlight that aspect of the character if he doesn’t mingle with his mom’s side of the family.

Why Daphne And Niles Still Need To Appear In The Frasier Reboot

Bringing in Cox’s Harry Moon would help address the Frasier reboot’s Daphne issue, but it doesn’t fully solve it. Ultimately, Daphne and Niles still need to make an appearance at some point. There isn’t any justified reason for them to be unable to visit Boston, especially since their closest family is in Beantown. The Frasier reboot season 1 finale highlighted how ridiculous it was that they were spending Christmas in Seattle when Frasier, Freddy, and David were all on the East Coast and Martin was already gone. Hopefully, Grammer can eventually convince Pierce and Leeves to be involved.
