Keanu Reeves’ BRZRKR Barrels Towards Its Epic Bloody Conclusion

Warning! Spoilers for BRZRKR #9

Actor Keanu Reeves’ comic book series BRZRKR is heading towards an epic and violent conclusion. An upcoming issue is beginning to close out the series with an exciting new story arc for the half-mortal, half-immortal, B.

Throughout BRZRKR, Reeves has partnered with co-writer Matt Kindt (Folklords), artist Ron Garney (Wolverine), colorist Bill Crabtree (BPRD), and letterer Clem Robins (Hellboy) to craft a thrilling original story. Although already notable for Reeves’ involvement, the series has also broken comic book selling records and has gained much critical acclaim, after first being posted on Kickstarter to raise funds, leading to more than $1.4 million in donations. The actor’s comic book writing debut has seen him step into a cinematic series with a protagonist who shares his likeness. BRZRKR’s mysterious 80,000-year-old character who is part-human and part-god known as “B.” is on a government assigned mission, as he seeks to learn about who he is and how to bring an end to his violent pursuit.

As revealed by BOOM! Studios, BRZRKR #9 will hit shelves in June, featuring a new story arc that will eventually conclude the title. The released synopsis teases that B.’s past secrets will catch up with him, with discoveries that will alter his trajectory. His true origins will be explored, in the midst of Caldwell’s overarching scheme. The issue is set to feature a cover by series artist Garney, with variant covers by Mike Del Mundo (House of Slaughter), and Humberto Ramos (Amazing Spider-Man).

The limited series has already fulfilled its first two story arcs, as collected in Volumes 1 and 2, each comprised of 4 issues. BRZRKR still has 4 more issues to go until it wraps up with its 12th installment. By then, B. will have figured out the truth of who he is, and likely how to fight against his own nature. The impending adventure is promising to satisfy readers who have stuck along for the ride. It isn’t often that original stories are told with this level of success in comics, providing an exciting story for both regular comic book readers and casual fans of Reeves to become familiar with the medium. Both sides of readership are eagerly awaiting how Reeves and Kindt resolve the series and bring closure to B.’s journey.

Although it’s been speculated that BRZRKR is essentially an elaborate metaphor for Reeves’ personal life and career, the theory doesn’t seem to provide any answers for where the final arc is headed. BRZRKR #9 is set to release in comic book shops in June.
