Kate Winslet’s Upcoming $5.2 Billion Franchise Movie Will Make Up For This Year’s Disappointing Rotten Tomatoes Show

Kate Winslet’s Upcoming .2 Billion Franchise Movie Will Make Up For This Year’s Disappointing Rotten Tomatoes Show

Kate Winslet’s new HBO series The Regime is a big disappointment, but her upcoming entry in a huge sci-fi franchise can make up for the show’s Rotten Tomatoes rating. It’s easy to see what attracted Winslet to her latest HBO miniseries. The ingredients were there for the political satire to be something special; it was her return to HBO following the acclaim of Mare of Easttown, it was created by Will Tracy (The Menu, Succession) and half the episodes were helmed by veteran director Stephen Frears (Dangerous Liaisons). Even The Regime’s cast included heavyweights like Andrea Riseborough and Hugh Grant.

Sadly, The Regime is the weakest of Kate Winslet’s three HBO shows to date. The satire lacks any real bite or nuance and is also oddly timid about engaging with real-world politics. Of course, the bulk of the show’s Rotten Tomatoes reviews rave about Winslet’s performance. She anchors the series, bringing depth to a character who is often in danger of being a caricature.

Fans of the star’s work are in for a long wait since Winslet’s next project Avatar 3 won’t arrive until December 2025. Regardless, the next James Cameron Avatar movie is all but guaranteed to be a major success, with Winslet set to reprise her role as Ronal of the Metkayina clan. The previous entry, The Way of Water, reunited the star with her Titanic director James Cameron, and while there were doubts viewers would turn up for a belated sequel, it went on to gross $2.3 billion.

So in short, yes, audiences will definitely turn out for the third chapter. The Avatar movies have grossed a collective $5.2 billion at the box office, and there are another three movies on the horizon. It will be interesting to see what the next outing does with Winslet’s Ronal, considering the character didn’t have a major role in The Way of Water.

Avatar 3 Is Almost Guaranteed To Have A Better Rotten Tomatoes Score Than The Regime

Mildred Pierce (2011)

Mare of Easttown (2021)

The Regime (2024)

57%

The Regime is by no means a disaster, with the miniseries containing some great performances (especially from Riseborough and co-star Danny Webb) and production design. The show is still a disappointment, however, considering the wealth of talent behind it. Regardless, its tepid reception won’t impact Winslet’s career in the long run. As is often the case when she appears in projects with mixed reviews, Winslet was still considered the strongest part of the misfiring Regime.

The show’s RT score is noticeably down from her other HBO outings too; it has a 57% rating compared to Mare of Easttown’s 95%. Avatar 3 might not receive universal acclaim, but it will no doubt leap over The Regime’s Rotten Tomatoes score – even if that doesn’t sound like the highest of bars. Still, Avatar 3 should offer Winslet some redemption for The Regime’s RT performance, though there is a decent chance many will have forgotten about the latter when December 2025 arrives.
