Triple H continues to aggressively reshape WWE‘s main roster as former NXT champion Karrion Kross re-debuted on the August 5 episode of Friday Night SmackDown. Throughout the night, a verbal confrontation between Drew McIntyre and Roman Reigns was hyped up as essentially the main event of the evening. After the Tribal Cheif said his piece, McIntyre came out to cut his promo but was brutally attacked by a returning Kross.
Kross was last seen on the main roster in November of last year but was released by the company. The news was shocking at the time, given how well he’d been treated on the developmental brand as NXT champ. Once Vince McMahon got ahold of Kross, he altered his gimmick entirely, dooming his run on the main roster before he even had a chance to get going. He’s been one of the top free agents available since being released, and this could turn out to be a massive signing for WWE. Especially if reported plans for him end up coming to fruition.
Fightful Select reports that Kross’s comeback could drastically shake up WWE’s main event and title scene. “Among the pitches we’ve learned is that Kross would be inserted into the Drew McIntyre-Roman Reigns feud and be involved in a match for one of Roman Reigns’ world titles, as opposed to both. Fightful had also been informed that USA Network wanted a top title featured on WWE Raw more often, as Roman Reigns is rarely seen on their show since winning the WWE Championship at WrestleMania.“
It’s good to hear that someone besides fans noticed that Reigns hasn’t exactly been a fighting champion since WrestleMania 38. SummerSlam was just the second time Roman Reigns has defended the unified titles since winning them on April 3. Almost all of his championship run has been booked by Vince McMahon, but with Triple H in charge, it sounds like things could be changing at the top of the card.
For Kross, this is an opportunity to right the wrongs that came along with his previous main roster run. In NXT, his presentation was stellar. He looked dangerous at all times, with his real-life wife, Scarlett Bordeaux, acting as his harbinger. After looking dominant in NXT, he made his Monday Night Raw debut on July 19, 2021, where he… lost to Jeff Hardy. That, in a nutshell, is how Kross was treated by McMahon. Triple H clearly sees him as a main-event level player, and it seems like he’ll be involved at the tippy top of the card at September’s Clash At The Castle. Seth Rollins, another favorite of Hunter’s, has also been teased as a potential addition to the fight as well. Two of Triple H’s favorites in Rollins and Kross in a fatal four-way against McMahon’s chosen ones in Drew and Roman could be interesting for WWE fans, to say the least.
