Melvin Jones is the kitchen manager at the Old Lady Gang on the new show, Kandi & The Gang, and he’s quite the interesting character. Kandi Burruss-Tucker charmed fans on The Real Housewives of Atlanta season 2 and has been on every season since. Now, she is starring in her third spin-off show, following her and her family as they learn to work together to help make OLG a success. Kandi & The Gang follows the “old ladies” who inspired OLG: Joyce Jones, Nora Wilcox, and Bertha Jones, along with several other members of the family. The Bravo series has already become a hit with fans, who love the blend of drama, hilarious, and heartwarming moments between the close-knit staff at OLG. There is also a great deal of romance, whether between married couples, flirtatious exes, “situationships,” and new relationships between the restaurant staff.
Melvin is 30-years-old and is currently working as the kitchen manager and chef at OLG. He and his cousin, Patrick Dallas, both say they were raised as brothers since they were very young. On Melvin’s Instagram, he is frequently pictured with Patrick and even called him his best friend when asked questions about Kandi & The Gang. They are currently living together, and both work at OLG along with fellow Kandi & The Gang star Shawndreca Robinson. The cousins even live close to their workplace, as their apartment is a few steps away from the restaurant in Atlanta, Georgia.
Many of the Kandi & The Gang cast members are related to one another, as Melvin’s grandma is Bertha Jones, one of the original “Old Ladies” in the OLG. That makes Melvin Kandi’s cousin, but because of the age gap, she thinks of him more as a son. He is also her godson, and Kandi often gets into arguments with her husband about how to treat Melvin when at work and what standards they need to hold him to. Melvin has already given fans a glimpse of his big heart on Kandi & The Gang, as he spends a lot of his free time with his grandmother Bertha, which keeps the family closer.
On Melvin’s Instagram, he revealed that he has a criminal record and has turned his life around in recent years. Melvin started as a dishwasher before going to culinary school and working his way up to full-time chef at OLG. Melvin seems to be staying out of the drama on Kandi & The Gang and called himself antisocial in an Instagram interview about the show. Melvin and Todd Tucker did have a small riff when Todd said he was not stepping up and being a leader in the kitchen since being promoted to kitchen manager. Hopefully, Melvin can step up and make Kandi and the family proud.
