Kaecilius Could Return As A Different Marvel Villain In Doctor Strange 3

With ties to the Dark Dimension, Kaecilius has a strong opportunity at making his cinematic return in Doctor Strange 3 as a different Marvel villain. Formerly a Masters of the Mystic Arts member and student of the Ancient One, Kaecilius grew disappointed with his master who prohibited him from allowing other dimensions to come in contact with Earth-616. In hopes of being reunited with his deceased wife and son through the Dark Dimension, Kaecilius created the Zealots and attempted to take down the Ancient One.

Aided by Wong and Mordo, Doctor Strange was able to stop Kaecilius’ madness by paying a visit to Dormammu in the Dark Dimension. After Dormammu accepted Strange’s bargain to leave Earth and end his destruction, Kaecilius, who also desired to become immortal, became part of the Dark Dimension for all eternity. While he achieved his goal but at a great cost, there’s actually hope for Kaecilius. With the help of Dormammu, there’s a neat way he can exact his revenge on Stephen Strange in Marvel Studios’ upcoming adventure, Doctor Strange 3.

Dormammu May Use Kaecilius To Create A Human Form

In Doctor Strange, one of Kaecilius’ abilities was using ancient rituals to draw power from the Dark Dimension, which Dormammu ruled. In Marvel Comics, Dormammu had more of a human form as opposed to the abstract, cosmic look he had as a villain in Doctor Strange. He was born a Faltine, which were beings comprised of dark energy that held vast amounts of power. One of Dormammu’s most notable moments in the comics was when he and his sister, Umar, accumulated matter to help build permanent physical forms for themselves. Although the Faltines strongly disliked this, Dormammu and Umar eventually settled on humanoid forms with flaming Faltine heads as their “main” bodies.

With Kaecilius now a part of the Dark Dimension, Dormammu could achieve a more comic-accurate look as the events of Doctor Strange set this up. Dormammu could manipulate the Dark Dimension’s mystic energies and essentially merge himself with Kaecilius’ body. In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness‘ mid-credits scene, Dark Dimension sorceress Clea and niece of Dormammu called upon Stephen Strange to help her with something in the Dark Dimension. This alluded to the strange and hostile realm being revisited in some capacity with future Marvel projects. If Dormammu resurfaced, it would only be right to give him a more humanoid look to involve him more prominently in the story.

Why The MCU’s Dormammu Lacks A Physical Body In Doctor Strange

As of now, it’s not certain if Marvel’s Doctor Strange was Dormammu’s first and last appearance in the MCU. With what the film presented, cosmically speaking, Dormammu may simply have been “young” and didn’t yet find the need for a physical form. After being trapped in an endless time loop by Strange, which he could never escape, the only realistic way for him to get his revenge on Stephen would be to take on a physical form and go to Earth. Dormammu’s encounter with Doctor Strange may have been the catalyst for this to happen, and if he happens to appear in Doctor Strange 3, using Kaecilius’ body as an alter-ego may be his best chance to get what he desires.
