The writer details how the one-shot, plus Stargirl: The Lost Children and Justice Society of America, will examine the team throughout the past, present and future of the DC Universe. Johns emphasizes that history and legacy are the defining themes for this next chapter of the JSA. The new Justice Society of America title will not only feature the team in the ’40s, but a futuristic incarnation with new versions of Doctor Fate, Green Lantern and Obsidian.
The Justice Society’s Past Is Key To Its Future
With the radical changes to the DC Omniverse, it’s been a question of where the Justice Society falls in DC’s current continuity. The team has returned to aid the younger generation of heroes in Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths, but it seems that the New Golden Age seeks to properly realign the elder crime-fighters in the current structure of the DC Universe. The Justice Society is one of the DCU’s foundations. They are the inspiration for the teams that would follow in the years after. Without them, the Justice League, the Titans, the Legion of Super-Heroes, none of them would have come together had the WWII-era heroes formed their team. But with the DC Universe in such a bold new era, some new changes to their continuity may be in order to make sure they still fit.
