The Golden Age of DC is returning, and everything fans know about the Justice Society may be changing forever. A new trailer features Geoff Johns teasing what’s to come for the next exciting era of the DC Universe’s iconic superhero team.Long before the heroes of the DCU joined together to form a league of their own, the Justice Society of America kept the world safe from the world’s biggest threats. Though the Justice League largely exists on a sliding timeline, the Society is firmly linked to the 1940s, having fought alongside the Allied powers in WWII. The Justice Society has had its history updated at various points throughout the years, often leaving their current standing in question. But DC aims to clarify just where the Society fits in its post-Infinite Frontier era with a new one-shot, New Golden Age #1, along with a new Justice Society maxiseries and Stargirl miniseries.Related: New Golden Age Will Permanently Change Official Continuity, DC AnnouncesTo build up fans’ excitement for the proper return of the Golden Age heroes, DC has created a trailer prominently featuring lauded writer and JSA fanboy, Geoff Johns. In a new trailer posted on DC’s various social media channels including Twitter, Johns reaffirms that the events of Flashpoint Beyond #6 will be the foundation for New Golden Age. The writer details how the one-shot, plus Stargirl: The Lost Children and Justice Society of America, will examine the team throughout the past, present and future of the DC Universe. Johns emphasizes that history and legacy are the defining themes for this next chapter of the JSA. The new Justice Society of America title will not only feature the team in the ’40s, but a futuristic incarnation with new versions of Doctor Fate, Green Lantern and Obsidian.

The Justice Society’s Past Is Key To Its Future

With the radical changes to the DC Omniverse, it’s been a question of where the Justice Society falls in DC’s current continuity. The team has returned to aid the younger generation of heroes in Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths, but it seems that the New Golden Age seeks to properly realign the elder crime-fighters in the current structure of the DC Universe. Between Stargirl having to track down a lost generation of sidekicks and the Justice Society facing an unknown threat that spans history, the Golden Age heroes may change forever.

The Justice Society is one of the DCU’s foundations. They are the inspiration for the teams that would follow in the years after. Without them, the Justice League, the Titans, the Legion of Super-Heroes, none of them would have come together had the WWII-era heroes formed their team. But with the DC Universe in such a bold new era, some new changes to their continuity may be in order to make sure they still fit. Whatever changes come with the New Golden Age are sure to have some drastic consequences on the Justice Society of America and the DC Universe as a whole.
