As the Justice League gets ready to take on the Monsterverse, fans are getting a peek at which leviathans are set to fight the DC Universe’s icons.
2023 is getting closer to the end and December is right around the corner. Fans have gotten a glimpse of upcoming books DC is set to release in December, such as the Titans-centric crossover “Beast World” and its many tie-in titles, not to mention the epic conclusion of its Christmas event Batman / Santa Claus: Silent Knight. The month also sees DC Comics’ Monsterverse crossover continue with the third issue of the much anticipated Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong.
Superman and Godzilla have gone head-to-head with devastating consequences in Metropolis as the Justice League scrambles to protect their homes from the monsters—Supergirl encounters Kong on Skull Island and Wonder Woman takes on Behemoth on Themyscira! Lost in the monster mayhem, though, are Lex Luthor and his Legion of Doom… what nefarious connection do they have to everything?
Fans have been dying to know what other monsters would be making an appearance in the epic event and the solicitation finally names one. Wonder Woman is going to square off against the wooly mammoth-like Behemoth after it stomps its way to the Amazon home of Themyscira. But that isn’t the only new kaiju the Justice League is facing. The main cover by Christian Duce shows Green Arrow taking cover as Kong battles with a giant and ferocious Warbat as smoke billows in the background.
The Justice League is Fighting the Monsterverse’s Behemoth and Warbat
During 2023 Comic-Con International: San Diego, DC Comics announced its first crossover with Legendary Comics’ Monsterverse to produce Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong. The 7-issue miniseries will see the heroes of the DC Universe fighting to save their world as it’s invaded by the Titans of the Godzilla and Kong franchises. Preview art has already seen Godzilla squaring off with Superman in Metropolis and Kong has been shown facing the Legion of Doom. But after teasing from writer Brian Buccellato, kaiju fans have been speculating what other monsters are heading to the DCU.
Fans may recall Behemoth from the film Godzilla: King of the Monsters as one of the Titans caught up in the war between Godzilla and his nemesis King Ghidorah. Warbat, on the other hand, was featured in Godzilla vs. Kong as one of the threats Kong encounters while in the Hollow Earth. Though Behemoth has had an additional appearance in the comic series Godzilla Dominion, neither Titan has really gotten a chance to shine beyond their film debut. But it looks like these two Titans will play major roles in the Justice League’s battle against the Monsterverse.
Two Underrated Titans Are Taking on DC’s Greatest Heroes
Godzilla fans are undoubtedly curious as to what monsters are going to show up during the crossover event. Buccellato has primed fans to expect anything during this all-out war between superheroes and Titans. Warbat and Behemoth might not be the most hotly-anticipated kaiju. But their appearance in the solicitation for the upcoming Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong issue is a good reminder that anyone can show up in this event, regardless of how little screentime they’ve had. Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong #3 goes on sale December 19th.
