Justice League Movie Title & DC Film Release Dates Rumors [UPDATED]

Justice League Movie Title & DC Film Release Dates Rumors [UPDATED]

Warner Bros. Pictures is working hard to right the ship of the DC Extended Universe following the polarizing reception of the ambitious would-be blockbuster slate’s flagship feature, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. The followup to that film, Justice League Part One, is currently in production under the direction of Man of Steel and Batman V Superman helmsman Zack Snyder, but the creative approach on the first Justice League looks to be affected by recent changes in DCEU personnel; namely, Batman actor Ben Affleck being recruited to play a larger role behind the scenes on Justice League and DC Comics Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns being appointed as the DCEU’s overseer.

Additional rumors have now emerged regarding the Justice League film – namely, what the DC superhero team-up adventure will be subtitled. WB is also rumored to have tentatively staked out a few releases dates in 2020 and beyond for DCEU movies that are either currently in development (see the Harley Quinn film reportedly in the works) or will be in the foreseeable future.

The new rumors chiefly include possible subtitles for Justice League, and come courtesy of Heroic Insider frontman Umberto Gonzales, aka “El Mayimbe”: a controversial figure in internet movie journalism whose rose to prominence reporting on leaked information for Latino Review. While his “scoops” do not always turn out to be correct, they’ve proven accurate enough times that major outlets tend to take notice of his reports (see when he broke the news about Colin Trevorrow directing Star Wars: Episode IX) – all the more so of late, now that one of his most famous “misses” (Marvel’s intent to adapt the Planet Hulk comic storyline) have been partially-confirmed years later with recent revelations about Thor: Ragnarok.

Justice League Movie Title & DC Film Release Dates Rumors [UPDATED]

According to Gonzales, the potential subtitles being kicked around for the first Justice League feature include UnitedAngels & Demons, Gods Among Us and Gods Among Men – the latter two not to be confused with Injustice: Gods Among Us, a series of fighting games based around a violent, alternate universe incarnation of the DC Universe heroes. If correct, any of these subtitles would indicate that – whatever changes of course the production has taken in the wake of Batman V Superman – Snyder’s established tone of copious larger-than-life mythological self-reference will likely carry over into the sequel; possibly inspired by the work of DC writer Grant Morrison, who pioneered drawing parallels between the Justice League and the Olympian Pantheon in his 1990s run on the book.

UPDATE: Newly appointed DCEU overseer Johns has commented on Twitter about the Justice League movie title rumors. Take a look at his statement:

Clearing up any misconceptions — the Justice League movie is called “Justice League”. @BenAffleck @GalGadot @ZackSnyder Happy Friday!

— Geoff Johns (@geoffjohns) June 4, 2016

In addition, Gonzales’ report also claims that Warners is circling four near-future dates to “claim” as release targets for four yet-to-be-named DC Extended Universe features: October 2nd, 2020, April 16th, 2021, July 2nd, 2021 and November 5th, 2021. It is not known whether or not these dates are intended for new films or as new dates for films previously announced, though the October 2020 date would place the unknown film’s release only two months after Green Lantern Corps and possibly month before a third installment in the Harry Potter spinoff series, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them from the same studio. The 2021 dates mark the furthest any studio has planned a Cinematic Universe project to reach yet, as Marvel Studios has (thus far) only schedule new films through 2020.
