Jury Duty Season 2: Will It Happen? The Next Ronald Gladden & Everything We Know

Jury Duty Season 2: Will It Happen? The Next Ronald Gladden & Everything We Know

<

The unique comedy series Jury Duty was a sleeper hit for the streaming service Freevee, and here’s all the Jury Duty season 2 news. Premiering April 7, 2023, Jury Duty follows an unsuspecting non-acting, real-life person (Ronald Gladden) as he takes part in a jury trial where he is the only person who isn’t an actor going along with a script. Though the cast is mostly made up of lesser-known actors, A-lister James Marsden appears as himself to add to the show’s humorous premise. Jury Duty became an overnight sensation thanks to social media sites like TikTok, and it has helped elevate the fledgling Freevee brand.

What makes Jury Duty unique is combining elements of a prank show with a sitcom for hilarious results. Unlike other prank shows of the past that made their unwitting subject the butt of the joke, Jury Duty makes Ronald the hero of the story and the humor is derived from his reactions to the ridiculous events happening around him. Another piece of the puzzle for Jury Duty‘s success was the unscripted moments, and Ronald himself was responsible for a handful of heartwarming scenes that added emotional value to the series. Ronald was the one twist that completely flipped Jury Duty‘s script, but will there be a Jury Duty season 2?

Jury Duty Season 2: Will It Happen? The Next Ronald Gladden & Everything We Know

The obvious success of the unscripted hit has ignited much speculation about a second season, but little news has actually materialized. Now, star James Marsden has spoken about the future of the show, and the A-lister was rather candid with his feelings towards the series that earned him several award nominations. Of the sleeper hit’s possible return, Marsden said:

Marsden’s thoughts highlight the conundrum posed by the series since it was such an ingenious premise, and it likely can’t be replicated in the same way. In his comments, Marsden also acknowledged that he likely won’t return to the series since it was a once-in-a-lifetime moment that can’t be recreated to the same effect.

Jury Duty Season 2 Is Not Confirmed

Despite its overnight success, Jury Duty season 2 is not confirmed by Freevee or the show’s creators, but its popularity is a good sign. The free movie and TV app, Freevee, was previously known as IMDb TV, and it inherited several high-profile shows such as Bosch: Legacy and Alex Rider, with new content still being produced for the streamer. Though Freevee’s catalog of originals is rather small, a sleeper hit like Jury Duty can help propel it to the next level, which might require a season 2 to keep the momentum going.

Jury Duty Season 2 Cast – Who Could Return?

James Marsden looks on sarcastically in Jury Duty

A big part of the magic of Jury Duty season 1 was the lovable nature of its star, Ronald Gladden. Since the finale of Jury Duty season 1 pulled back the curtain and revealed the ruse to the non-actor, it is highly unlikely that season 2 of the show could center around him again. However, because he was such a likable person and a true natural on screen, it isn’t entirely out of the question that he could have a cameo appearance in a future season or even take part in the fictional setup.

Additionally, the somewhat anonymous nature of the rest of Jury Duty cast could see them return in some capacity whether as extras or as characters once again. Marsden was a big draw for the series, and the fact that he played himself actually made Jury Duty much funnier because the celebrity was essentially spoofing his own Hollywood persona. While Marsden is unlikely to return for Jury Duty season 2, it is also highly likely that Freevee could land another notable name who could put their improv skills to the test in whatever situation is dreamed up.
