Jurassic World: Legacy Of Isla Nublar Game Announced By Funko

Funko Games is looking to take fans to the realm of dinosaurs in a new Kickstarter-funded board game called Jurassic World: The Legacy Of Isla Nublar. Though more widely known for its popular line of Funko Pop figures, Funko has produced several fun board games based on iconic properties like Back To The Future, Godzilla, and The Fast And The Furious.

Meanwhile, fans of the long-running Jurassic Park series will recognize Isla Nublar as the home island of the titular theme park of the first Jurassic Park film. While the subsequent sequels would shift focus to a second dinosaur-infested island named Isla Sorna (only to return to the original island in 2015’s Jurassic World), players have been able to explore Isla Nublar in video games like 2011’s Jurassic Park: The Game and the recently released Jurassic World Evolution 2 – most of which task players with building their own dinosaur-filled theme parks and trying to avoid becoming a meal for the island’s prehistoric inhabitants.

Now, players will be able to enter the dangerous island of Isla Nublar like never before in Jurassic World: The Legacy Of Isla Nublar. Funko Games announced this new project by design studio Prospero Hall back in September, but now the publisher is ready to shed further details on this new legacy-style board game. Jurassic World: The Legacy Of Isla Nublar puts players in the roles of classic Jurassic World movie characters like John Hammond, Dr. Alan Grant, Dr. Ellie Sattler, and Dr. Ian Malcolm as they work to transform the untamed island of Isla Nublar into a world-famous theme park. Players will journey through 12 different adventures on a fully customizable game board, deciding where to build certain Jurassic World attractions and keeping visitors safe from hungry dinosaurs like the gargantuan T-Rex or the cunning Velociraptor. Further details are still forthcoming as Jurassic World: The Legacy Of Isla Nublar nears its planned release date in Fall 2022. The Kickstarer campaign for Jurassic World: The Legacy Of Isla Nublar begins in March.

Crowdfunded board games modeled after popular and niche properties have become increasingly commonplace over the past few years – especially ones based on video games. Earlier this year, Go On Board’s The Witcher: Old World surpassed its Kickstarter goals – even breaking Polish records for such a project nearly five times over in the process. Meanwhile, games based on Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s Orlog Dice minigame, and Monster Hunter are well on their way to getting physical releases.

With Jurassic World: Dominion set to arrive in theaters in June, the timing seems right for a board game set on the untamable island of Isla Nublar. Jurassic World: The Legacy Of Isla Nublar looks to give players the chance to create their own custom tales of survival in the face of ferocious dinosaurs. Jurassic World: The Legacy Of Isla Nublar is currently marked for a retail release sometime next Fall, not too long after the hungry inhabitants return to terrify moviegoers once more.
