Jurassic World Dominion’s New Dino Twist Is Exactly What The Movie Needs

Jurassic World: Dominion‘s new dino twist is exactly what the movie needs. Marketing for the film has been relatively low-key, with the film having yet to release a full trailer. Fortunately, a teaser for the film that ties in this year’s Winter Olympics has just been released, and the video gives viewers a perfect taste of what the film could explore with its premise.

Following its predecessor, Fallen KingdomJurassic World: Dominion will explore dinosaurs and humans around the world as they coexist together following the former’s transportation to the mainland after the destruction of Isla Nublar. Dominion sees the return of several main characters, notably Chris Pratt’s Owen Grady and Bryce Dallas Howard’s Claire Dearing. In addition, the film will feature Jurassic Park‘s legacy trio of Alan Grant, Ellie Sadler, and Ian Malcolm, with all three of their respective actors returning. Jurassic World‘s Colin Trevorrow will also be making a return to the director’s chair after J.A. Bayona took over the reins in Fallen Kingdom.

As previously stated, the marketing for Jurassic World: Dominion has been very limited. The most notable promotion for the film is a five-minute prologue that features dinosaurs during the Cretaceous period before transitioning to the present day. While the prologue is effective in acting as a potential set-up for the film, there hasn’t been much more to garner major anticipation for the film. The Winter Olympics teaser for Dominion has helped to change that, featuring dinosaurs in a new environment that effectively sets up exciting opportunities the film could take to revamp the franchise.

Jurassic World Dominion’s New Dino Twist Is Exactly What The Movie Needs

In the Jurassic World: Dominion teaser, two-time Olympic Gold Medalist and World Cup alpine skier Mikaela Shiffrin is skiing down a snowy mountain slope, realizing she’s being pursued by a velociraptor about to attack her before being scared off by a T-rex, who Shiffrin promptly flees from as well. For a small teaser, it manages to be pretty intense. It frames Shiffrin as being completely alone in the snowy landscape, which increases the dread that comes with her being potential prey for both the raptor and the tyrannosaurus. With this in mind, the marketing campaign is proving that there is great care being taken to make sure this film delivers on fan expectations. The Jurassic Park movie franchise has had several scenes that took on a horror approach, many of which include the velociraptors and the T-rex. The teaser is able to recapture that, and the snowy environment proves that the franchise is capable of doing things differently while sticking to its roots.

Jurassic World: Dominion‘s teaser seems like a good sign of what’s to come. It’s going to be a tough task ahead, but between this teaser and the prologue, it looks the Jurassic Park franchise is heading in the right direction. Viewers will know for sure when Jurassic World: Dominion hopefully releases in summer 2022.
