Jurassic World Dominion Runtime Reportedly Revealed (And It’s Very Long)

Jurassic World Dominion‘s runtime reportedly surfaces and puts it as the longest installment in both the Jurassic World and Park franchises. The upcoming threequel serves as a culmination of both stories as the world grapples with dinosaurs having been released into the world and forcing humanity to learn how to live and hunt alongside the deadly creatures following the events of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. New and familiar faces will have to work together in an effort to find the way to restore balance to the world before a new age of dinosaurs takes over.

Jurassic World Dominion will see the returns of original Park stars and sequel trilogy vets including Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Laura Dern, Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum, Daniella Pineda, Isabella Sermon, Justice Smith, Omar Sy and BD Wong. It will also mark the franchise introductions of Mamoudou Athie, Scott Haze, Dichen Lachman, DeWanda Wise and Campbell Scott, who takes over the role of Biosyn Genetics CEO Dr. Lewis Dodgson from Cameron Thor in the original Jurassic Park. Colin Trevorrow is back at the helm for Jurassic World Dominion with a script he co-wrote with Emily Carmichael and following multiple COVID-related delays, the film is gearing up to hit theaters this summer and audiences may be in for quite the lengthy adventure.

With just over two months to go until the film’s release, Jurassic World Dominion‘s runtime has reportedly been revealed by Collider. The dino threequel will reportedly clock in at 2 hours and 26 minutes, making it the longest entry into both the Jurassic Park and World franchises. The shortest installment in either series is that of Jurassic Park III, which clocked in at just over 92 minutes. The runtime was previously reported by One Take News.

Jurassic World Dominion Runtime Reportedly Revealed (And It’s Very Long)

The reveal of Jurassic World Dominion‘s runtime clocking in at nearly 2.5 hours is sure to spark a debate amongst audiences over the necessity of such an extended length. Many recent blockbusters have come under criticism from critics and general audiences alike for their longer runtimes, most notably that of Matt Reeves’ The Batman, which came in just shy of three hours long, Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, which ran just over 2.5 hours, and Chloé Zhao’s Eternals, which was similarly just over 2.5 hours and was criticized for its dull pacing, amongst other things. The Robert Pattinson-led Dark Knight reboot, however, was later revealed to have tested better with audiences with its full theatrical cut versus shorter edits of the film.

While previous installments in both franchises have delivered their stories in just over two hours, to a variety of reviews, Jurassic World Dominion‘s longer runtime may actually benefit the film. Trevorrow previously revealed that the film will follow the original Jurassic Park trio in their own plotline before eventually meeting with Pratt and Howard’s World characters, and with trailers for the threequel indicating the latter will get plenty of pulse-pounding action and storytelling, an extended runtime should help better balance these two narratives rather than risk an overstuffed story. Only time will tell how critics and audiences feel about the long runtime when Jurassic World: Dominion hits theaters on June 10.
