Jurassic Park’s Sam Neill & Laura Dern Reunite for Photo, Jeff Goldblum Comments

Jurassic Park’s Sam Neill & Laura Dern Reunite for Photo, Jeff Goldblum Comments

UPDATE: Lauren Dern humorously responded to Goldblum’s tweet.

Original Jurassic Park stars Sam Neill and Laura Dern reunited in a photo recently, and their co-star Jeff Goldblum was quick to comment. The three actors starred together in the Steven Spielberg film, and they have continued to make appearances sporadically throughout the franchise, from the film’s first sequel to the most recent Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

In the original Jurassic Park, Neill and Dern starred as paleontologist Allen Grant and paleobotanist Ellie Sattler, respectively. The two agree to visit John Hammond’s brand new park – which just so happens to be filled with living, breathing dinosaurs – whereupon they meet chaos theorist Ian Malcolm (Goldblum). After surviving the events of the first film, Goldblum later returned to the franchise in the film’s direct sequel The Lost World: Jurassic Park, as well as Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, while Neill and Dern returned for Jurassic Park III – with Dern’s role serving more as a cameo compared to Neill. Now, though there have been no official talks of the actors returning once again for Jurassic World 3, a new photo with Neill and Dern certainly has people talking (namely Goldblum himself).

During the Television Critics Association press tour, Neill and Dern reunited, taking the opportunity to take a photo together. Neill posted the photo on his Twitter with the caption, “And then a happy reunion with that lovely pal of mine @LauraDern . Ok , a @JurassicPark flashback if you absolutely insist.” Goldblum then retweeted the photo and captioned it with a reference to his line in The Lost World, saying, “Yeah, that’s how it always starts. But then later there’s running and screaming…” Dern later retweeted Goldbum’s tweet, saying “Well, where the hell were you to save the day with some mad science and lots of flirting?”.

Though nothing has been confirmed regarding possible cameos from either Neill, Dern, or Goldblum in Jurassic World 3, director Colin Trevorrow did hint at their returns. Though he didn’t make any promises, he stated that he would like to see them make a comeback – namely Dern, who “never got to have her own movie.” So, even though the plot of Jurassic World 3 may not end up making sense for either of them to return, it’s clearly being considered.

As successful as the first two Jurassic World  films may have been, there’s no denying that fans of the series would not object to a return of the original cast. Nostalgia has always played a major role in film franchises, especially ones that have lasted as long as the Jurassic Park series. One of the biggest examples of this was Star Wars bringing back its original cast with Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford. And, though Neill, Dern, and Goldblum may not necessarily be on the same level  as Luke, Han, and Leia, their returns would likely be just as appreciated.
