Jungle Cruise: Dwayne Johnson & Emily Blunt Troll Each Other With Posters Reveal

Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt troll one another with their new posters for Disney’s Jungle Cruise movie. This summer, the pair will team up for Jungle Cruise, a film adaptation of the beloved Disney theme park ride in which guests take a small 1930s riverboat down major rivers in Africa, Asia, and South America and pass by a variety of audio-animatronic animals, all while their captain cracks groan-worthy jokes. For the big screen, the Adventureland attraction has been re-imagined as, fittingly, a Pirates of the Caribbean-style action-adventure full of dangers both everyday and supernatural in nature.

Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (Non-Stop, The Shallows), Jungle Cruise stars Johnson as Frank, an Amazon riverboat captain who hoodwinks his customers by taking them on tours full of fake threats like pretend hippos and actors masquerading as dangerous natives. However, Frank gets more than he bargained for when he agrees to take British scientist Lily Houghton (Blunt) on a journey in search of a mystical tree said to exist somewhere in the jungle, only to find himself battling a rival expedition and finding out the hard way just how real the legends are. Now, with the film entering its next stage of marketing, Johnson and Blunt continue to do their part to generate hype for the movie, ahead of its release.

In a new video posted to Johnson’s Twitter account, he and Blunt troll another by revealing Jungle Cruise posters that comically favor one of them over the other. The clip concludes by announcing the new Jungle Cruise trailer will drop online tomorrow. You can watch the video and check out the posters (which are real) below, ahead of the trailer and official official one-sheet’s arrival.

This isn’t the first time Blunt and Johnson have promoted Jungle Cruise by playfully ribbing one another, either. The trend started with a production video released back in 2018, with Blunt and Johnson pretending to give one another a hard time and behave inappropriately. The pair similarly presented dual trailers for Jungle Cruise at D23 last summer, with one emphasizing Lily as the hero and the other focusing on Frank. The strategy has paid off so far, allowing the Jungle Cruise marketing to make bigger waves than a more cut-and-dry promotional campaign would’ve done. It’s also a nice reflection of their characters’ dynamic in the movie; as Johnson and Blunt have said many times over by now, Frank and Lily have an oil and water relationship inspired by those from classic jungle action-adventures like The African Queen and Romancing the Stone.

Reactions were generally positive to the first Jungle Cruise trailer when it dropped last fall. In addition to a pair of charismatic A-listers yucking it up, the preview hinted at plenty of exciting set pieces in the film, along with some darker elements more in line with Collet-Serra’s earlier work as a horror-thriller director. (Nothing too edgy, of course; this is still a Disney movie.) On top of all that, it’s been three years since the Mouse House released a tentpoles along these lines – in the form of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales – and audiences seem all the more eager for a fresh take on another beloved Disney theme park ride for it. We will see if that remains the case when the second Jungle Cruise trailer launches on Tuesday.
