Crunchyroll has unveiled the winners of their yearly anime award, and the winner of the biggest category is none other than Jujutsu Kaisen season 2. The series took home many awards, and they were honored for being the pinnacle of anime in 2023.

Returning after almost 3 years, this sorcery epic had been highly anticipated for several reasons, most notably the storyline it would cover. For almost six months straight, the series dominated social media with each passing episode and managed to one-up previous releases.

Although there were other series just as deserving of the title, such as Vinland Saga season 2, Jujutsu Kaisen was chosen by thousands of anime fans around the world for being the one that stood above the rest in 2023.

Jujutsu Kaisen’s Season 2 Review: The Shibuya Incident Exceeds Expectations Despite Controversies

Jujutsu Kaisen’s second season is one of the most memorable anime ever, for good and bad reasons.

Jujutsu Kaisen Took Action To A New Level

Produced by MAPPA, based on the original manga by Gege Akutami

The first 5 episodes of Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 covered the Hidden Inventory arc, which went into more detail on Gojo Satoru’s backstory, and his relationship with the villainous Geto Suguru. Although it mainly served to clarify what happens later, it was still entertaining and made Gojo a far more complex character. The series also introduced the very popular Toji Fushijguro, the one man who has managed to defeat Gojo, also known for being Megumi’s father.

Finally, the long-awaited Shibuya Incident arc was adapted. Hailed as Jujutsu Kaisen‘s best arc, the anime managed to elevate the infamous story arc thanks to MAPPA’s pristine production value. The animation was breathtaking, the music composition was perfect, the voice acting was top-notch, and the visuals were spectacular. It was easy to tell that there was a lot of passion and effort put behind it to deliver an incredible experience that will stick with fans for years to come.

It isn’t all sunshine and rainbows, however, as the series’ run was plagued with accusations and allegations of horrible working conditions. Many animators came forward to expose MAPPA for their inhumane practices and were given little time to work. This did not stop them from delivering on the high expectations of fans, and viewers are forever grateful for their hard work. Jujutsu Kaisen receiving the Crunchyroll award for Anime Of The Year is a great way to recognize how hard the staff worked to bring together an unforgettable anime.
