Jujutsu Kaisen Explores Gojo’s School Days in New Season 2 Trailer

Popular high school teacher Satoru Gojo is back for a second season of the hit anime Jujutsu Kaisen, but this time around, he’s the student seeking advice and assistance on how to become a great sorcerer. As revealed in a new promotional video (PV) posted to the official Jujutsu Kaisen anime Twitter account, Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 will start by momentarily taking a step back from the exploits of Yuji, Megumi, Nobara, and the new generation of sorcerers to depict what life was like for older sorcerers including Gojo, Yuki Tsukimo, Tokyo Jujutsu High Principal Masamichi Yaga, and Megumi’s father Toji Zenin, AKA Toji Fushiguro when they were young. It will also delve more into the backstory of important characters such as Gojo’s one true friend Suguru Geto, who proves pivotal in almost everything that is going on in the current Jujutsu Kaisen timeline.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Reveals Gojo & Geto’s Origins

The PV was not the only new information the Jujutsu Kaisen anime account revealed. There were also a few pieces of promotional artwork including one with Gojo, Geto, and another key character in the storyline Star Plasma Vessel Rika Amanai.

Another piece depicts Geto and Gojo in their school uniforms.

The segment promoted in the PV is an adaptation of “Gojo’s Past” story arc in the manga, which covers Gojo’s second year at Tokyo’s Jujutsu High School. Arrogant and brash, Gojo is paired with the intensely cerebral Geto. The two hit it off and quickly become one of the school’s “go-to” teams for the more important missions. Ultimately, they were asked to meet with Rika and escort her to the school. What seemed like a fairly standard mission of providing protection to a VIP, for students of as high ability as Gojo and Geto quickly went sideways as the two came into contact with forces much more powerful than they had confronted before. The results not only put a strain on their relationship but led to critical changes in their mindsets that would have long-term consequences for the jujutsu sorcerer community. This segment of the second season is essential in the overall saga as it not only provides important background information on why the older generation of sorcerers act as they do but also gives context to upcoming events such as the gaming-changing Shibuya Incident.

The new season of Jujutsu Kaisen is set to premiere on July 6, 2023 in Japan and will be available for global viewers via Crunchyroll’s anime streaming service, which is also streaming the anime’s first season as well as the movie adaptation Jujutsu Kaisen 0.
