Juggernaut Will Finally Fight Marvel’s Own Superman, Hyperion

Warning! Spoilers for Marvel’s upcoming Heroes Reborn event below.

Marvel’s Superman, Hyperion, is about to face one of his toughest opponents yet: Doctor Doom sporting Juggernaut’s armor. In a Marvel Universe where the Avengers never existed, the Squadron Supreme will become the mightiest heroes of Earth – and one of the greatest enemies the group will face is a remixed version of two notorious villains.

In their next event, Marvel Comics will showcase a completely changed Marvel Universe. Heroes Reborn (no, not that one) will feature a world where Blade, the last vampire on the planet, will be the only one who remembers the former universe. In the new world, Tony Stark was never stuck inside a cave and never built the Iron Man armor; Thor is a hard-drinking Athiest who hates hammers; Black Widow became a villain; young heroes got all new names, costumes, and mentors; and the Squadron Supreme are the universe’s answers to the Avengers. Taking a lead role is Hyperion, who was originally created as a parody of Superman, as the antihero has essentially the same origin and powers as his DC counterpart.

ComicBook.com spoke with writer Jason Aaron about the upcoming Heroes Reborn arc, who said that his series with Ed McGuinness won’t be what readers expect. He spoke more about Doctor Doom becoming the Juggernaut, explaining that in the story, Doom is Hyperion’s “arch-enemy.” In order to stop the strongest being in the entire universe, he’ll seek out the Gem of Cyttorak, the artifact that gives Cain Marko his powers.

Juggernaut Will Finally Fight Marvel’s Own Superman, Hyperion

The preview shows Doctor Juggernaut and Hyperion facing off against one another. Doom has grabbed Hyperion’s throat with his massive hands, which angers the hero. Then, Marvel’s version of Superman uses his heat vision to blast Doctor Juggernaut, who guards his eyes as he takes in the beam from Hyperion. The tease is promising and shows that the two heavyweights are going to have an epic battle.

It’s hard to guess a winner in the fight between Doctor Juggernaut and Hyperion because both characters are so powerful. The original Juggernaut was near-unbeatable when he had the full powers of the Gem of Cyttorak on his side – there’s a reason he’s nicknamed the ‘Unstoppable Juggernaut.’ But, Hyperion has the powers of Superman as well as a much bigger edge and ego. It’s why it’s fair to also compare him to Homelander from The Boys. He’s not going to hold up or relent against Doctor Juggernaut, as the fight has the potential to get deadly. Both Hyperion and Doctor Juggernaut are going to fight until they can’t anymore. Who doesn’t want to see that? Marvel’s Heroes Reborn is in comic shops and available online in May!
