Jonathan Majors Arrest Addressed By Loki Season 2 Episode 3 Director

Kasra Farahani, director of Loki season 2, episode 3, “1893,” has commented on Jonathan Majors’ March 2023 arrest. Jonathan Majors debuted in the MCU as He Who Remains in Loki season 1’s finale before appearing as Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Majors’ villain has been set up as the primary antagonist of the MCU’s Multiverse Saga, but this destiny was thrown into jeopardy in March 2023 when Jonathan Majors was arrested on allegations of assault. While Marvel Studios has stayed fairly quiet on these allegations and Majors’ future role in the MCU, several figures at the studio have provided comments on the developing case.

During a recent interview with Variety, Loki season 2, episode 3, “1893,” director Kasra Farahani spoke about his evolution from production designer to director on the Disney+ series. “1893” introduced Victor Timely into the MCU, another variant of Kang the Conqueror who is also portrayed by Jonathan Majors, so Farahani was questioned on the allegations facing Majors. Farahani briefly noted that “it was a surprise for sure” to learn of Majors’ arrest, before revealing how great the experience of filming his directorial debut had been, particularly working with Loki stars Tom Hiddleston, Owen Wilson, and Majors himself.

It was a surprise for sure. But I don’t know anything about it, other than to say that we had, honestly, such a great experience on the set. The cast was a wonderful ensemble. They all worked together super well. Tom would have an idea, Jonathan would have ideas, Owen is an idea machine. The experience on set was without any drama, and just a joy. For me, especially as my first big directing opportunity, I count myself so fortunate to be working with such high-caliber actors that made the directing that much easier for me.

Why Jonathan Majors’ Arrest Hasn’t Affected His Role In Loki Season 2

Filming for Loki season 2 took place between June and October 2022, meaning the Phase 5 season had already been filming completely prior to Jonathan Majors’ arrest on March 25, 2023. During a previous interview with Variety, Loki executive producer Kevin Wright confirmed that Loki season 2 is the first Marvel Studios series not to undergo any additional photography, revealing that Majors would still have an integral role in the series, as “it felt hasty to do anything without knowing how all of this plays out.” Production on the season was, in fact, almost over by the time of Majors’ arrest, so it may have been impractical to remove him.

Jonathan Majors’ arrest affected many of the emerging actor’s upcoming roles, including those in The Man in My Basement and Otis and Zelma. In September 2023, Variety reported that Majors’ next key hearing has been set for October 25. Majors’ future as the Multiverse Saga’s overarching villain is uncertain after Loki season 2, though the actor is currently billed to appear in 2026’s Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. For now, Majors is expected to appear as Victor Timely – and potentially further Kang the Conqueror variants – in the remainder of Loki season 2 on Disney+.
