A fan poster for the upcoming Jon Snow television show teases the warg powers that Game of Thrones barely hinted at. The term “warg” is mentioned during the third season of the HBO series, as Kit Harington’s Jon Snow is told that a warg is a person who’s capable of entering the mind of an animal, also seeing what the animal sees and even controlling the animal’s actions. In the novels, however, Jon himself is a warg. He enters the mind of his direwolf, Ghost, at times doing so unconsciously. But outside of Bran, the HBO adaptation does not make these abilities central to the narrative.
A new poster shared on Reddit for the announced Jon Snow spinoff puts the breakout Game of Thrones character back in the spotlight, while also highlighting his war abilities.
The fan poster splits in half, with one side focusing on Snow and the other focused on his direwolf, Ghost. The poster also uses the title ‘Snow’ and echoes the familiar Game of Thrones font.
What To Know About The Jon Snow Series
The series was announced as being a follow-up to Game of Thrones, continuing the story of Jon Snow after the divisive finale of the original. Emilia Clarke, who of course played Daenerys Targaryen, noted in an interview that she’d spoken to Harington about the project and that it was essentially his creation. George R. R. Martin, the author behind Game of Thrones, expanded on this and mentioned that the story was pitched by Harington himself and confirmed that the actor brought in his own team.
HBO executive Francesca Orsi has recently given a disappointing update on the Jon Snow spinoff. Orsi, the head of HBO Drama Series and Films, said in May that the network had been working with writers to get the spinoff in shape for a potential pick-up. She also cautioned that there’s “no determination on whether it can go all the way.” Given the cautionary remarks, it’s possible that the Jon Snow spinoff won’t happen at all.
There is some excitement about the project, given Harington’s likability with his performance and the fact that the original Game of Thrones left some storytelling avenues unexplored. Fans will likely have to wait at least until after the WGA strike is resolved, and potentially longer, to find out more about whether the spinoff will be moving forward.
