While recovering from his previous Jokerization, Groucho unveils the truth behind Joker’s intentions, disclosing that the clown is on the hunt “for a kindred spirit, someone like-minded, someone he can play with. However, Joker hits a snag in his quest for a best friend forever, as his chosen candidate, Christopher Killex, is dead. Consequently, Joker seeks the aid of his former mentor and friend, Xabaras, whose expertise lies in resurrecting the dead, to assist him in bringing Killex back to life.

Killex was once one of England’s greatest neurosurgeons, before becoming a deranged serial killer who was infamous for skinning and dismembering his victims in search of the physical equivalent of the “human soul.He held firm to the belief that this essence resided within obscure glands, unnoticed capillaries, or even individual cells. Dylan Dog brought an end to Killex’s reign of terror by killing him. Upon Killex’s demise, his soul found its place among the heretics in Hell. However, Batman and Dog now suspect that Joker, aided by Xabaras, has resurrected him from his infernal imprisonment.
