Jorge Jimenez Continues His Series Of Exciting Variant Covers With Joker/Punchline

Batman and Catwoman Variant Cover by Jorge Jimenez

Joker and Punchline’s relationship has been a chaotic one, to say the least. The Joker has often attracted women that he can manipulate, with Harley Quinn being the biggest example, but Punchline has been precisely the opposite, creating a new and refreshing dynamic for the Clown Prince of Crime. She was initially a woman who actively wanted the Joker’s attention. This led to Joker seeking her out and training her as his new apprentice. This eventually grew until Punchline practically replaced Joker in Gotham City, as the latter left town after the events of the Joker War.

Punchline was designed as the “anti-Harley Quinn” and her relationship with Joker seems to best prove that. She’s been a capable sidekick for him, helping him lead the Joker War against Gotham City, and even without him in Gotham, she’s continued to carry on his philosophy by causing indiscriminate chaos and even managed to secure her own spot in the Legion of Doom. With Joker only now returning to Gotham City after years away, fans haven’t really gotten to see how their relationship has evolved, but can count on the fact it’ll be destructive for both parties.

Lois and Superman Variant Cover by Jorge Jimenez

Covers are a great way to explore small, character-focused details, which might not fit within the context of the story inside the comic. By using the power of covers, Jorge Jimenez has been able to give a look into several beloved DC romances, using only one insightful image. In his series so far, Barbara and Dick are depicted as playful and sweet, Catwoman and Batman are messy and leave them both tangled, and Superman and Lois are portrayed as bright and physically charged. And now, Punchline and Joker are chaotic and tense, which is certainly what readers would expect from them.
