Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Took Down a Fan-Favorite Jojo in a Brutal Way

Spoilers for Crazy Diamond’s Demonic Heartbreak Chapter 6 ahead.

A common refrain from fans of supernatural action series like Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure is to question why the heroes or villains don’t simply use conventional weapons against their enemies. It just so happens that this time, the latest Jojo villain is taking that advice and proving it really has merit.

In the spinoff series Crazy Diamond’s Demonic Heartbreak, Josuke Higashikata and former minion of DIO Hol Horse have begun working together, hunting down a missing parrot. This isn’t just any parrot, however–it’s a stand-wielding parrot that once belonged to DIO named Petsounds, which was trained alongside his hawk Pet Shop. The bird’s stand forces people to reenact events it once witnessed, which includes many major scenes from Stardust Crusaders that can cause absolute havoc. Worse still, this means that any attackers it sends at them are innocent passersby, severely limiting their options for fighting back.

After their encounter with Petsounds goes awry in chapter 6, Josuke and Hol Horse retreat to the underground subway, under the impression that the bird would likely be unwilling to enter such an area. As the pair try to deduce the rules of the bird’s Stand ability, it soon becomes apparent that their hiding place isn’t as secure as they’d hoped. The parrot begins reenacting the massacre of a small village in Africa that it witnessed, causing a stampede and seriously unnerving both Stand users. As it turns out, however, this was all just a distraction; the man who stole the parrot is also nearby, and fires a crossbow bolt at them, striking Josuke right in the shoulder.

Unfortunately for Josuke, he can use his Stand’s ability to heal anyone but himself, so he’ll be left with that injury for quite a while. Since the villain’s identity is still unknown, it’s impossible to say whether or not he is a Stand user himself, so a conventional weapon may be his only option to attack with. Much of Crazy Diamond’s Demonic Heartbreak has thus far focused on the trauma that being under DIO’s thrall caused Hol Horse and his minions, so it seems likely that this villain was an associate of DIO’s at the time. Without inventing a new character out of whole cloth, that does leave a small number of possibilities, especially once those who’ve already shown up are taken out of the equation. Fan speculation has ranged from the elder Oingo Boingo brother to the vampire servant Nukesaku, who notably did not have a stand.

Of course, while this mystery villain may have had some success with a conventional ranged weapon, he’s made a poor choice of targets, since Hol Horse is also an expert sharpshooter whose gun is his Stand. With Josuke raring for vengeance, real weapons, and a bird who’s hypnotizing people, the coming fight is sure to be one for the books when it comes to craziness, and that’s all a Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure fan can really ask for.
