Part 9 Of JoJo Will Have A Totally Unexpected Setting

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure began in 1987 and is one of the longest-running manga in history. The story initially followed the generational struggle of the Joestar family against the villain Dio Brando, but many new characters and plots were introduced throughout. JoJo was officially rebooted after part 6, Stone Ocean. The two parts that follow it, Steel Ball Run and JoJolion, have both taken place in a new “reality” completely removed from the previous continuity. Part 9 then comes as a direct sequel of JoJolion, also set in this new continuity, and, according to the author, it will focus on the Joestar family once again.

In an old interview, Araki teased that part 9 of his manga could possibly take place in Scotland or Northern Europe, so the “subtropical islands” setting comes as a huge surprise. However, this was already teased in an illustration that JoJo‘s author shared to celebrate the New Year, which contained, along with a first glimpse at the new protagonist’s face, a couple of palm trees. The official Ultra Jump preview contains more interesting hints of what’s to come in JOJOLands. A sailing boat appears, teasing that this could possibly be a seafaring adventure. Some fans even spotted a character on the boat that they believe could be a new version of Jolyne Kujo, the protagonist of Stone Ocean, but the image is not clear enough to confirm this.

Fans are also showing appreciation for the design of the new protagonist, even if only his face has been revealed for now. Araki is widely known for his sense of fashion and unforgettable character design, and the protagonist of JOJOLands will certainly be memorable too. With a little more than a month before JOJOLands debuts, fans’ excitement is at an all-time high, proving that, after more than three decades, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is still as popular as ever.
