The spinoff is set between the events of Chapter 3 and Chapter 4, the latter of which recently debuted to stellar reviews and a franchise-best opening weekend.

Now, as John Wick: Chapter 4′s box office success continues, a Ballerina release date has officially been set. According to Deadline, the anticipated spinoff film starring de Armas will debut in theaters on June 7, 2024. Right now, a Karate Kid sequel movie, Ishana Shyamalan’s The Watchers, and an untitled Sony and Marvel Universe movie are also scheduled for that same summer release date, though this far out, those are subject to change.

The John Wick Franchise Future Explained

Ballerina is just one of many spinoffs expected to expand on the rich underworld of assassins explored in the John Wick franchise. With de Armas as the lead, Ballerina‘s cast includes Gabriel Byrne, Norman Reedus, and Catalina Sandino Moreno in undisclosed roles. The spinoff will be closely related to the tapestry of the John Wick films, as Ballerina will feature cameo appearances from Reeves’ eponymous assassin, Ian McShane’s Winston, Anjelica Huston as The Director, and the late Lance Reddick as Charon.

John Wick will be receiving a spinoff show, The Continental, which is set during the 1970s in the titular safe haven for hit men and is expected to premiere on Peacock this year. There is a secret John Wick movie in the works, as revealed by producer Erica Lee. The Lionsgate franchise has hopes for John Wick: Chapter 5 and a sequel to Ballerina. It remains to be seen how these spinoffs perform without Reeves at the forefront, though with de Armas, an Oscar-nominated action star, as the face of Ballerina, the spinoff is primed for success next summer.
