The John Wick franchise continues to expand, as not only is John Wick: Chapter 4 scheduled for release next year, but the TV series The Continental is also currently in production. But this rapid growth isn’t enough for some fans, and a group of Redditors wants to see the expert assassin cross over into other huge movie franchises.
Given how outrageous the John Wick series has gotten, with dogs trained to kill, the head of the High Table miraculously appearing in Casablanca, and everyone in the world seemingly being an assassin, anything’s possible at this rate. Between facing off against other iconic movie assassins, joining Dominic Torretto’s family, and targeting Bruce Wayne, Redditors have some imaginative ideas for John’s next outing.
Bourne
A deleted user thinks that the Wick franchise should crossover with the Bourne series, noting, “They’re both high-level assassins, both served in the military, and both have extremely good hand-to-hand combat skills. I would pay money for that fight.” What the Redditor explains is the reason why the crossover might not work, as they’re both too similar, and the concept wouldn’t make for an interesting fight.
However, Jason Bourne is extremely skillful when it comes to being a faceless assassin and covering his tracks, whereas John Wick leaves a trail of destruction behind him. So, there’s enough difference for the crossover to be exciting, and stealth vs. bombast would make for an interesting experiment.
Hitman
While many think the John Wick series would make a great video game, others think a video game series would make for a great movie crossover. There have been two Hitman movies, but they’re adaptations of the popular stealth video game that sees Agent 47 assassinate targets in creative and strange ways. Anarchy_Grim thinks Agent 47 facing off with Wick could be an incredible “vs.” movie.
In fairness, as 20th Century Fox has failed time after time to faithfully adapt the game, a crossover could be the way to finally make Agent 47 entertaining in the film format. But instead of going after each other, it’d be better to see the two assassins competing and going after the same people. That way, audiences could see the artistic ways in which Agent 47 picks off his targets, and it’d be hilarious to see the cloned assassin hiding from Wick in some inventive disguises.
The Matrix
VMagturo wants to see The Matrix crossover with the assassin franchise. The Redditor goes more into detail about how it’d be fun to watch Neo and John Wick go head-to-head, which would be fun not only because they’re both played by Keanu Reeves, but also because Wick is just as much of a threat with a pencil as Neo is with his powers.
But the Reddit user is missing one key point that could elevate the crossover from a fun “vs.” movie to one of the most mind-blowing sci-fi films of all time. Some have theorized that John Wick is a matrix world, whether it’s a matrix inside a matrix or otherwise, and it could flip the franchise on its head. And, at the very least, it’d be better than The Matrix Resurrections.
Fast & Furious
Where most Redditors are simply naming franchises about other mercenaries and assassins, Tobephair thinks outside the box and points to the street racing franchise. However, the Fast & Furious series isn’t so much about street racing anymore, as it’s now a globe-trotting high-octane action series. The Fast saga gets more ridiculous with each consecutive release, and it has gotten to the point where fans want to see dinosaurs and time travel in the upcoming Fast X.
But the Redditor wants John Wick to join the Fast family, positing, “Keanu Reeves would go some way to fill in the void left by Paul Walker.” Ever since audiences said their emotional “goodbye” to Walker in Furious 7, it has felt like something’s been missing in the series, so Wick’s addition could fix that. But, ironically, given how Dom is practically a superhero at this point, Wick would probably lose in a fight to him.
Batman
This deleted user is adamant about how great a John Wick and Batman crossover would be, and they even have an elevator pitch. The Redditor comments, “John Wick is contracted to take out what seemed like a usual mark. Billionaire, heir, playboy, general layabout, Bruce Wayne.” Wayne being Wick’s target could really make a great cat-and-mouse chase thriller.
Ironically, Keanu Reeves was almost cast as Batman, and a crossover could somehow see Reeves briefly don the cape and cowl, which would be the greatest piece of fan service ever. The Caped Crusader would seemingly make any franchise better, as many want a Batman and James Bond crossover, too.
Nobody
Hawaiitransplant808 thinks it’s all but inevitable that Nobody’s Hutch Mansell and Wick will meet on screen. The Redditor asks, “Anyone excited about this possibility?” There are so many connections between Nobody and John Wick. Both protagonists are retired assassins, the bad guys are the Russian mafia, and they’re both full of gun-fu.
Even outside the actual movie, Nobody was produced by David Leitch, the co-director of the first John Wick, and it was written by Derek Kolstad, who created the entire John Wick universe. So, it’s only natural that the two characters crossover at some point. Unfortunately, given that the two properties are owned by different studios, it might forever remain theoretical.
James Bond
GunGeek369 thinks James Bond could make a decent crossover movie with John Wick, but the idea was conjured out of thin air. The Redditor has found what could be retconned as a connection to the John Wick franchise in Skyfall, and it could be the perfect setup for a crossover.
The user explains, “I was just watching Skyfall, and a part where 007 picks up a coin off of an assassin kind of reminded me of John Wick.” Given that Daniel Craig’s tenure as Bond has come to an end and MGM is developing a new and different route with the series, joining forces with Lionsgate to deliver a team-up movie would be a flawed but undoubtedly entertaining approach.
Deadpool
Vodasser77 thinks Deadpool could be the best franchise for John Wick to crossover with, noting, “I think Wick’s seriousness and Deadpool’s humor would really go well together.” John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum’s fight scenes bordered on comedy violence, such as the horses kicking the henchmen and John being kicked through one pane of glass after another. And the Merc with the mouth commentating over the top of such things could be the logical next step for the series.
Deadpool could act as one of the secondary antagonists that John has to take down to get to the movie’s real villain, just like Zero was in Chapter 3 and Ares was in Chapter 2. However, the Redditor makes an interesting point that would add an extra dimension to the series, explaining that Deadpool would be “the only person he would not be able to kill.”
