John Krasinski’s A Quiet Place Replacement Is Perfect, And A 6M Movie From 5 Years Ago Proves It

Although it’s uncertain if John Krasinski will return to the upcoming A Quiet Place: Day One, a massive box office success from five years ago proves that his replacement will excel as the new movie’s lead. With A Quiet Place: Day One hitting theaters this summer, audiences won’t have to wait too much longer to see how the new movie expands the lore of A Quiet Place‘s world, while also treating viewers to new and old faces. While certain characters from previous entries in A Quiet Place are returning, Krasinski’s Lee and the rest of the Abbott family likely won’t.

A Quiet Place: Day One is a prequel spin-off movie that centers around the first day of the franchise’s alien invasion. As such, the trailer for the upcoming prequel treats audiences to new characters while also sprinkling in scenes of beloved characters from the previous two entries in the franchise. It’s currently not known if Krasinski or Emily Blunt will appear in A Quiet Place: Day One, due to the flashback nature of his appearance in the trailer. However, A Quiet Place: Day One is still positioned to do well anyway, largely thanks to one key movie from the new lead’s past.

Us Proves Lupita Nyong’o Can Easily Replace John Krasinski In A Quiet Place’s Prequel

Nyong’o’s acting range on display in Jordan Peele’s Us proves she can hold her own in A Quiet Place: Day One.

Lupita Nyong'o holding a cat on the streets of New York in A Quiet Place: Day One

Lupita Nyong’o’s expansive body of work already suggests her aptitude to successfully replace Krasinski in A Quiet Place: Day One, but her work in Jordan Peele’s Us decidedly solidifies her horror movie leading lady status. In Us, Nyong’o plays the dual roles of the intelligent and meek Adelaide Wilson, and the undeniably terrifying Red, to incredible effect. While her work as Red deserves all the praise it continues to receive five years later, her performance as the brave mother of two is often overlooked simply by virtue of how genuinely scary Red is.

However, Nyong’o’s Adelaide displays a bravery, resolve, and intellect that are not only great for Us, but proof she’ll do an excellent job as A Quiet Place: Day One‘s new lead. While there isn’t an abundance of details available regarding Nyong’o’s Sam in A Quiet Place: Day One, the trailer for the movie shows that she’ll exercise a similar degree of courage and judgment necessary to survive the events of the spin-off. While Nyong’o’s turn as Sam is something to be excited about, her role in the upcoming movie already presents one undeniable problem.

Lupita Nyong’o’s A Quiet Place: Day One Character Faces The Same Fate As John Krasinski’s Lee

Since Nyong’o’s Sam is never seen in A Quiet Place or A Quiet Place Part II, she’ll likely die in the spin-off.

Lupita Nyong'o looks shocked on the poster for A Quiet Place Day One

Since Sam isn’t in A Quiet Place or A Quiet Place Part II, and the franchise kills even its leads (as seen in the first entry), it’s possible Sam will face a similar fate as Krasinski’s Lee Abbott. Sam perishing at the hands of the aliens or even a human makes sense because it highlights one of the franchise’s themes of survival, but it’s also possible that Sam will survive and ride off into the sunset. Her survival would certainly set up a sequel for the spin-off, but the ending may be more impactful and underscore the threat if she doesn’t make it in A Quiet Place: Day One. Regardless of what happens, Nyong’o has shown she’s more than up to the task of carrying the Quiet Place spin-off in Krasinski’s absence.
