John Krasinski says he likes A Quiet Place Part II even more than the first. Back in 2018, A Quiet Place became a surprise hit after scoring excellent reviews thanks to its unique premise. Krasinski directed and co-wrote while also starring alongside his real-life wife, Emily Blunt. The two play parents Evelyn and Lee Abbott as they struggle to raise their children in a world overrun by deadly monsters who have heightened hearing. After grossing more than $300 million worldwide, Paramount ordered a sequel with both Krasinski and Blunt returning in some capacity.
A Quiet Place Part II picks up where the first left off, with Evelyn setting out into the world with her three children following a devastating attack that left Lee dead. Before that, however, the film will flashback to the day the creatures arrived, allowing Krasinski to make a quick cameo. Early reactions for A Quiet Place Part II have been very positive, with many praising the world-building and the cast’s performances. Expectations are definitely high for this one, especially since the first one ended so perfectly.
Based on Krasinski’s words, however, fans might not have reason to worry about decreased quality. While speaking to THR at the film’s premiere, Krasinski admitted he initially wasn’t open to a sequel because of how much the first film meant to him. Any fears he might have had about tackling Part II seem to have been assuaged, because Krasinski explained, “I said I would never do a second one. Nothing could be as personal or be as organic to me as the first one, and turns out, I think I like this one better.”
A Quiet Place Part II also stars Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe, Cillian Murphy, and Djimon Hounsou. Now that A Quiet Place has become something of a franchise, fans are wondering if they can expect a Part III later down the line. At the premiere, Krasinski simply said, “The only reason why I would ever write [Part II] is I could figure out a way to make this movie worthy of all the love and respect the fans of the first one. This really is a thank you note to them.” Those fans might be turning out in droves to see the film, as early box office predictions expect A Quiet Place Part II to open above the first installment.
Krasinski was right to be wary about going for a sequel, but it sounds like he pulled off a second film that manages to surpass the original. Of course, one can’t fully say for sure until official reviews come in and fans get to see the film, but the early buzz as well as Krasinski’s own feelings suggest a positive outcome. Considering how one of the film’s stunts almost put Krasinski and Blunt’s marriage on the line, A Quiet Place Part II will hopefully be as big of a success as the first one.
