John Cena Joins TikTok Video Meme In Full Peacemaker Costume

John Cena joins in on a TikTok video meme trend dressed in his full Peacemaker costume while attending San Diego Comic-Con’s Special Edition. The wrestling superstar made his debut as the DC Comics antihero in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad as one of the multiple new team members Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller enlists alongside Idris Elba’s Bloodsport, Sylvester Stallone’s King Shark, Daniela Melchior’s Ratcatcher 2 and David Dastmalchian’s Polka-Dot Man. Cena’s Peacemaker ultimately turned on his team in an effort to conceal America’s involvement in Project Starfish, better known as Starro the Conqueror, and was shot and left for dead by Bloodsport.

Peacemaker picks up sometime after the events of The Suicide Squad after the titular character has healed and is enlisted in new missions by the government, with the show also exploring his origins and family. Cena leads the cast for the DC Extended Universe series alongside returning Suicide Squad stars Steve Agee and Jennifer Holland and newcomers Danielle Brooks, Robert Patrick, Freddie Stroma, Chukwudi Iwuji and Lochlyn Munro. Following a fast-tracked development and production over the past year, Peacemaker is currently gearing up to premiere on HBO Max on January 13.

While attending this year’s San Diego Comic-Con Special Edition, TikTok user Andrew McLean has teamed up with John Cena to recreate a recent video meme trend. Captioned with “When you’re ready to fight for peace at any cost!,” the video sees McLean dressed in a Peacemaker suit before turning the camera to show Cena in his suit, complete with his gun, sword and helmet. In the lead up to The Suicide Squad‘s release, Cena frequently showed his devotion to his Peacemaker character with his love of the suit. Gunn discussed in multiple interviews how attached to the costume Cena was during production, so much so the writer/director had to ask the star to stop taking the outfit home after shooting the film and the HBO Max series given how expensive they were to make and their desire for a Peacemaker season 2. Cena even wore the suit in multiple interviews to promote the film, including a notable appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Cena’s turn as the titular antihero in The Suicide Squad received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike and have left many hungry to see more. His and Gunn’s forthcoming reunion for Peacemaker is sure to come as the foul-mouthed continuation fans have been craving since the revelation of his survival in the film’s post-credits scene as well as a deeper development towards a nuanced character the villain team-up film didn’t have room for. The wait is nearly over as Peacemaker is set to hit HBO Max on January 13.
