JJBA Stone Ocean’s Ultimate Stand is the Perfect Symbol of its Villain

Warning: Spoilers for JJBA: Stone Ocean episodes 33-38The big villain of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean has been fortunate enough to have a Stand that’s continually evolved to suit his needs, but it’s his penultimate form that’s actually the perfect match for Pucci.

Pucci’s original Stand, Palesnake, allowed him to manipulate people’s memories and Stands by turning them into CD-like objects, which stored these concepts outside the original owner’s body. He was even able to remove Jotaro’s memories and Stand ability this way, which he used to learn more about Dio’s Stand, The World, since Star Platinum had developed such similar time-stopping abilities. After the creation of the Green Baby and its effects on Pucci, however, his Stand began to change.

When Pucci summons his Stand at Cape Canaveral, it causes gravity to seemingly go crazy, shifting the direction in which gravity’s pull dragged things and causing anything not firmly attached to the ground to begin falling endlessly. As Jolyne and her band get closer, they learn that this gravity disruption is Pucci’s fault, and that the gravity’s pull is determined by the orientation of his feet–everything else is sent in the opposite direction. Pucci introduces his new upgraded Stand as See Moon, which resembles Palesnake but with additional armor-like features that match the Green Baby’s appearance. Pucci’s Stand eventually goes on to evolve again into Stone Ocean’s Maiden Heaven, a Stand that bears a resemblance to a centaur and has the power to accelerate the passage of time all across the universe.

Pucci’s Stand Makes Him the Center of the Universe

JJBA Stone Ocean’s Ultimate Stand is the Perfect Symbol of its Villain

Pucci, as a character, is an extremely arrogant man, a trait he shares with Jojo’s biggest villain, Dio. He’s extremely confident that everything he’s doing is right, and that fate and destiny are on his side. He doesn’t even see Jolyne and her friends as obstacles, but as stepping stones toward achieving his eventual goal. Pucci legitimately believes he’s the most important person, and he talks about fate as if it’s a gravitational field, pulling those destined to meet together. All these things considered, a Stand ability that manipulates gravity and alters gravitational fields to be centered on him is perfect–his Stand makes him the center of the universe, something which remains true for Maiden Heaven, where the entire universe is accelerating around him. Since the universe eventually collapses and undergoes a new Big Bang, there’s even a moment where he’s literally the center of the universe just before that second Big Bang.

While Stands are often a reflection of a character’s personality and behavior in Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, few have been as on-the-nose as Pucci’s. It does add something unique to him as a villain, as its perfectly fitting nature continually spurs him on and confirms his beliefs.

The final episodes of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean are now streaming on Netflix.
