Jimmy Fallon Shares Sweet Dan Aykroyd Story From His First Days At SNL

Jimmy Fallon shared a story from his early Saturday Night Live days that involved Dan Aykroyd, who was on the show with Bill Murray and Ernie Hudson promoting Ghostbusters: Afterlife. From director Jason Reitman, son of Ivan Reitman, the original Ghostbusters director, Ghostbusters: Afterlife will take place during present-day and will see a new generation wearing the proton packs along with some familiar faces.

After a failed Ghostbusters reboot attempt in 2016, Ghostbusters: Afterlife returns to the original canon. Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Carrie Coon, and Paul Rudd star in the new film. Set in small-town Oregon, Ghostbusters: Afterlife tells the story of two kids and their connection to the original Ghostbusters. Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, and Ernie Hudson are also returning to the roles of Raymond Stantz, Peter Venkman, and Winston Zeddmore, respectively.

While promoting the film on The Tonight Show, Fallon shared a story from the first time he met the original Ghostbuster. Upon seeing Aykroyd, Fallon was somewhat starstruck. However, Fallon recalled that Aykroyd went up to him and said:

“‘You’re the new kid?’ and you were like, ‘Come with me; I’ll show you around.’ And he took me to the 11th floor and went to the garden.”

Aykroyd interjected, finishing the story with “You can go to the 11th floor, and you pass a secretary’s desk. And she goes, ‘What are you…’ and you go through the window next to her desk, and you’re out on the roof garden overlooking St. Patrick’s Cathedral and all that.” Saturday Night Live has been the host of several celebrities including Fallon, Aykroyd, and Murray. So, it is no surprise that Aykroyd may stop by and see the set that made him a celebrity. Plus, alumni from the show have a history of recruiting one another for various projects. However, this also shows that the alumni from the popular late-night show often look out for the new recruits.

The promotion of the new Ghostbusters: Afterlife seems to indicate that the film is paving the way for a new generation of Ghostbusters fans. Having the trio go on the set of The Tonight Show indicates that they have given the Ghostbusters: Afterlife story their seal of approval. So, fans can rest easy knowing that the film is in good hands for its November 19 release date.
