His appearance as the villain in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 also broke one of the actor’s rules, as Carrey is not a huge fan of making sequels. The actor told CinemaBlend as much back in 2017, explaining that such follow-ups often feel repetitive. While Carrey has done a few sequels over the course of his acting career, including Ace Venture: When Nature Calls and Dumb and Dumber To, they’ve been few and far between.

These are just some reasons Carrey seems eager to do more Sonic movies. The fact that he’s coming out of retirement for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 speaks mostly to his passion, though.
