After seemingly indicating he wouldn’t be back for the threequel as he would retire, Jim Carrey’s Sonic the Hedgehog 3 return has reportedly been confirmed. Carrey starred in the first two adaptations of the Sega video game franchise as the villainous Dr. Robotnik, the mad scientist looking to achieve ultimate power by capturing the titular hero and studying him.
A few months after production began on the movie, Variety has brought word that Carrey is reportedly returning for Sonic the Hedgehog 3. The announcement comes nearly two years after the Dr. Robotnik actor stated he would be looking to retire from acting. The creative team behind the movie had also expressed their hopes to develop something exciting enough to entice him to come out of his retirement.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is the sequel to the 2022 comedy-adventure movie that featured the Blue Blur and his companions on an adventure to stop Dr. Robotnik from taking over the world. The new film sees the new antagonist Shadow the Hedgehog, arriving to cause trouble for the newly formed trio of heroes, Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles, as they adjust to their earthly lives.
