Jessica Jones’ MCU Return Just Got A Lot More Likely

Jessica Jones’ MCU Return Just Got A Lot More Likely

With a newly revealed storyline from the Marvel and Disney+ series Echo, Jessica Jones’ MCU return just got a lot more likely. The MCU’s Phase 4 has brought more twists and turns than ever with the introduction of the Multiverse. This, plus the introduction of short series on Disney+ has greatly expanded the possibility for crossovers and both old and new characters to appear in Marvel content.

Daredevil, Jessica Jones (arguably the strongest of The Defenders), Luke Cage and Iron Fist are all popular Marvel characters in both the comics and their Netflix series, however they were seldom included in the MCU’s blockbuster movies, nor did they interact with other MCU characters. This changed however, when Charlie Cox returned as Daredevil in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Kingpin returned in Hawkeye. The characters also have newfound popularity after their titular shows were moved from Netflix to Disney+, more closely integrating the content with the greater MCU.

With Daredevil and Kingpin already appearing in the MCU, it seems inevitable other characters from the former Netflix shows will return in some capacity. Both Daredevil and Kingpin are also confirmed to appear in the upcoming Disney+ series Echo, which continues Maya’s (Echo’s) story from Hawkeye. Interestingly, they may not be the only ones reprising their roles. With the confirmation of a key subplot from Echo, the long-awaited Jessica Jones return just got a lot more likely. It has been confirmed that in Echo, Daredevil will be searching for Jessica Jones. They were once close allies in The Defenders, when they teamed up to take down a crime organization known as “The Hand”. Not only does Daredevil looking for Jessica confirm her character is relevant in the newer MCU’s Phase 4 content, it makes her return significantly more likely, as Daredevil isn’t one to give up easily. With Daredevil’s greatest enemy Kingpin returning in Hawkeye, it’s possible Daredevil is pursuing Jessica to help take him down once and for all.

Will Jessica Jones Return To The MCU?

Jessica Jones’ MCU Return Just Got A Lot More Likely

While Echo’s Daredevil subplot seems to be the most concrete evidence of Jessica’s return to the MCU, there are other details adding to the speculation. First, in September of 2021, Ritter told Screen Rant she “would absolutely just die to play Jessica again,” adding if the opportunity to reprise her role arose, she would “be there in a flash.” Ritter was also spotted with Jessica’s hairstyle earlier this year, garnering hope that she would be returning in Echo. Additionally, though more abstract, some also view the title change of Jessica Jones on Disney+ to A.K.A. Jessica Jones to be another hint at her return, possibly in a revival of her titular series. This could, however, just be Disney+ trying to honor the show’s original title, which was shortened before its Netflix premier.

The Jessica Jones season 3’s ending left many unanswered questions, something that could be addressed by reprising her role in Phase 4 of the MCU. While an appearance by Jessica Jones, is yet to be confirmed for Echo, Daredevil’s revealed desire to track her down in the series makes her return a lot more likely, possibly as soon as 2023 when the show begins streaming on Disney+. Either way, viewers would be well advised to brush up on Jessica Jones seasons 1-3, all streaming on Disney+.
