Jessica Jones Dated a Major MCU Hero Before Luke Cage

Before Jessica Jones hooked up with Luke Cage and became one of the most famous couples, she was actually dating another superhero, Ant-Man. And one that just happens to be a big deal in the MCU.

Although both Luke Cage and Scott Lang are both in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Scott Lang is a much bigger deal. He’s not just a part of the Avengers but was integral in Endgame for coming up with the plan to go back in time and reverse Thanos’s infamous snap. Meanwhile, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones had their own saga and relationship in Marvel’s Netflix shows, which has since been renamed the Defenders Saga now that they are on Disney+. But in the comics, Scott Lang and Jessica Jones actually had a relationship before her and Luke had a child and moved into Avengers Mansion.

At the insistence of Carol Danvers, who was still Ms. Marvel at the time, Jessica took a chance on Scott and the two of them went on a blind date in Alias #15, which was written by Brian Michael Bendis and illustrated by Michael Gaydos. Scott was sweet to her compared to Luke, who was brash after the two shared a one-night stand. Unfortunately for Marvel’s second Ant-Man, things didn’t work out between the two as Jessica found out that she had accidentally gotten pregnant with Luke Cage. She and Cage decided to try and make a serious relationship work, which turned out for the best based on everything that would come later.

On the surface, Jessica and Scott might not seem like a suitable couple. Even before he became Ant-Man, Scott was a master thief and ex-con while she was a private investigator who is sometimes paid to track down criminals. On closer inspection, the ill-fated pairing did make some sense, at least at the time. Jessica was in a rough place in her life. At the time they dated, both heroes could have used a stable partner to help each other out. Jessica also isn’t one to follow a strict moral code, and her rule-breaking demeanor might work nicely with Scott’s relaxed attitude to life. It’s ironic then, that despite being a thief and former convict, Scott was actually a true sweetheart.

Scott wasn’t the only potential love interest for Jessica outside of Cage though. One reality saw Jessica Jones and Captain America getting married, which might be difficult to imagine. Regardless of what could or could not have happened though, Jessica are made for each other. It’s probably for the best that Jessica Jones didn’t end up with Ant-Man, as her future with Luke Cage gave her a happy end.
