Jeri Ryan’s Favorite Star Trek: Picard & Patrick Stewart Memory: “Giving Him Crap”

Seven of Nine became an integral part of Star Trek: Picard, and actress Jeri Ryan recently spoke about her experiences working with Sir Patrick Stewart. Patrick Stewart originated the role of Captain Jean-Luc Picard in 1987 when Star Trek: The Next Generation began, and he has since become one of science fiction’s most beloved actors. Stewart returned to the role of Picard for Star Trek: Picard season 1, and he was joined by a cast of both new and familiar faces, including Jeri Ryan’s Seven of Nine. A former Borg drone, Seven of Nine joined the cast of Star Trek: Voyager in seasom 4 and she quickly became a fan favorite.

Seven has had a fascinating journey, which culminated in her becoming Captain of the rechristened USS Enterprise-G at the end of Star Trek: Picard season 3. Throughout most of Picard season 3, Seven served as the First Officer on the USS Titan-A under Captain Liam Shaw (Todd Stashwick). CommanderSeven helped Admiral Picard and Captain William Riker (Jonathan Frakes) hijack the Titan in their quest to save Dr. Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden). After Picard and the reunited crew of the USS Enterprise-D saved the day yet again, Seven was promoted to captain of the former Titan based on a recommendation from the late Captain Shaw.

While at the Saturn Awards, Screen Rant interviews Star Trek vets Jeri Ryan, Doug Jones and more to discuss Nicolas Cage and the franchise’s future.

Jeri Ryan Shares Her Favorite Memories From Working With Patrick Stewart

Jeri Ryan appeared alongside Patrick Stewart in all three seasons of Star Trek: Picard.

Screen Rant interviewed Jeri Ryan on the red carpet of the 51st annual Saturn Awards, where she took home the award for Best Supporting Actress in a TV Series. When asked about her favorite moment with Patrick Stewart, Ryan said she and Stewart have fun on set. Read her quote below:

Screen Rant: We saw Sir Patrick Stewart, a living legend, walk by a few minutes ago. Do you have a favorite moment that you’ve shared with him over the years?

Jeri Ryan: I’d say giving him crap! I like ribbing him. Yeah, he’s fun.

Screen Rant: Does he give it back?

Jeri Ryan: He does. He does. Yeah. It’s good. We have a good time on that side.

Along with many genre television shows and films, Star Trek has long been excluded from major entertainment award shows like the Emmys. Presented annually by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror, the Saturn Awards seek to remedy that by honoring the best in genre television and film. Jeri Ryan wasn’t the only cast member from Star Trek: Picard who took home a win at the 2024 Saturn Awards. Picard season 3 won Best Science Fiction Television Series, and both Patrick Stewart and Jonathan Frakes won in their respective categories.

Will Jeri Ryan’s Captain Seven Of Nine Return To Star Trek?

If Star Trek: Legacy doesn’t happen, there are other ways Seven of Nine could return.

After Star Trek: Picard season 3 ended with the perfect setup for a spin-off, rumors have been swirling about the potential for Star Trek: Legacy. Despite enthusiasm from both fans and people behind the scenes, it seems Paramount is focusing on the Star Trek projects it has already committed to, including Star Trek: Section 31 and Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. Whether or not Star Trek: Legacy ever happens, Seven of Nine’s journey as a Starfleet Captain was just getting started, and it would be a shame to leave her story unfinished.

Seven has come a long way since her time as a Borg drone, and she has yet to reconnect with many of the people who helped her on that journey. Most of the Star Trek: The Next Generation crew got to reunite for Star Trek: Picard season 3, and Star Trek: Voyager could one day get a similar treatment. Star Trek: Prodigy season 1 brought back several Voyager characters, including Kate Mulgrew’s Admiral Kathryn Janeway, leaving the door open for a bigger reunion in the future. While it would be great to see more of Seven’s story, the character has had a wonderful journey, from struggling former Borg drone in Star Trek: Voyager to confident starship Captain in Star Trek: Picard.
