Jennifer Coolidge Responds To Fan Campaign For Her To Play Melania Trump

Jennifer Coolidge has responded to calls from a fan on social media who has been campaigning for the actress to portray Melania Trump in a future comedic film. Coolidge has been an iconic actress in comedies since her debut as Stifler’s Mom in the first American Pie film and subsequently throughout the franchise. And most recently, she’s emerged as a star alongside Connie Britton and Murray Bartlett in HBO Max’s dramedy series The White Lotus

Coolidge is an underrated comedic actress. In films like Cinderella Story and Legally Blonde, her typical character is a wholly unfiltered and outrageous trophy wife or divorcee. And while her role as Tanya McQuoid in The White Lotus is in a similar vein, she explores the depths of her acting abilities and shows audiences that she’s more than a punch-line or a goofy side character in a silly costume. It’s nearly impossible to sympathize with her character after experiencing such heartbreak.

And in a recent interview with The Guardian about her time on The White Lotus set, she finally responded to a fan’s campaign to get her to portray the former First Lady of President Donald Trump in a future film. Coolidge called it a “compliment” and instantly asked, “where do I sign?” Read the star’s full response below:

“What a compliment. Where do I sign? Between you and I, though, I’m sure Melania would be bummed.

When asked if she would like to explore other genres with her acting, Coolidge mentioned returning to the traditional theater world and jokes that she also is interested in the Melania Trump biopic. So it sounds like she’s all-in; it’s just a matter of finding someone to write a film.

While a biopic about the Trumps doesn’t appear to be in the works anytime soon, Hollywood loves to use the former First Lady’s over-the-top character traits as the butt of a joke. From Cecily Strong’s Saturday Night Live portrayal to Lauren Benanti’s recurring appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, it was common to prod at the aloof First Lady during the Trump presidency. But she’s not the first — former Presidents, and First Ladies have been a long-running gag throughout the comedy realm since the dawn of TV and parody in general.

While Melania Trump herself hasn’t expressed anything about a potential biopic, it does seem inevitable that the Trumps will be the subject of some future mockumentary of some sort. And considering Coolidge is the bonafide queen of mockumentary films after being a reoccurring actress in Christopher Guest films, there doesn’t seem to be a better pick for a future Melania parody than the long-time actress.
