Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday Season 2 Update All But Guarantees The Return To This Setting

Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday Season 2 Update All But Guarantees The Return To This Setting

Jenna Ortega’s recent update about Wednesday season 2 seems to confirm the very real likelihood that the series will return to a particular location from season 1. After a massively successful first season, which aired on Netflix in November 2022, Wednesday season 2 is officially in the works. Filming is expected to begin in April 2024, with the majority of the main Wednesday cast set to return for season 2.

Ortega has revealed many intriguing details about Wednesday season 2, such as a shift in focus away from Wednesday’s romantic interests. Ortega, who plays the titular Addams Family character, also spilled that season 2 will be more action-packed and lean more into horror, and that each episode will “feel like a movie.” Another recent update that Ortega shared about Wednesday season 2 suggests a probable return to a season 1 setting that was not necessarily guaranteed before.

Jenna Ortega’s Supernatural World Comments Seemingly Confirm Wednesday Season 2’s Nevermore Return

The expansion of supernatural characters indicates a return to Nevermore Academy

Ortega recently revealed that Wednesday season 2 will be “expanding on the supernatural world” from season 1, which includes “vampires” and “werewolves.” If season 2 is expanding on the various outcast species at Nevermore Academy in Wednesday season 1 by introducing even more supernatural characters, it seems inevitable that Wednesday will be returning to the boarding school for outcasts in season 2. This may seem obvious or expected, since Nevermore was the central setting of Wednesday season 1, but there are a couple of different factors that raised doubts about the series’ return to Nevermore in season 2.

Most notably, Wednesday season 1 ending with Nevermore closing created the very real possibility that season 2 would primarily take place somewhere else. Plus, season 1 was shot in Romania, but Wednesday season 2 will be filmed in Ireland instead. Changing filming locations when Nevermore is canonically closed pointed to a potentially new central setting in Wednesday season 2. However, Ortega’s comments about expanding on the supernatural world and introducing new supernatural characters suggest otherwise.

How Wednesday Season 2 Can Bring Back Nevermore After Season 1’s Closure

Nevermore Academy closed down at the end of season 1

The Addams family's car approaches Nevermore Academy in Wednesday.

Wednesday is almost guaranteed to return to Nevermore in season 2 at this point. However, if that’s the case, season 2 will have to reconcile both Wednesday’s expulsion and the school’s closure in the season 1 finale. After Principal Weems expelled Wednesday, who went on to save the school and its outcast student body, Nevermore shut down pending the investigations of the various murders that took place.

Thankfully, classes at Nevermore were only cancelled for the rest of the semester, meaning the school is still in operation. Depending on how far in the future Wednesday season 2 begins, it’s very plausible that Nevermore will be open again by then. Now that Weems is dead, the bigger question is if Wednesday will be allowed to return as a student, or if she’ll even want to re-enroll at Nevermore in Wednesday season 2, especially with a stalker on her tail.
