Jeff Goldblum Interview: Jurassic World Dominion

Jeff Goldblum Interview: Jurassic World Dominion

Jurassic World Dominion may be the end of the Jurassic Park franchise when it arrives in theaters on June 10, but it’s certain to bring in a last hurrah for fans who have been loyal to the film series for decades. Not only will Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, and other favorites from the last two films be present in the third – but icons from the original trilogy are making their grand return.

While Jeff Goldblum charmed audiences with a minor appearance in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom as the suave Ian Malcolm, he’s back in a more expanded role alongside Sam Neill (who plays Alan Grant) and Laura Dern (who portrays Ellie Sattler) in Jurassic World Dominion.

Screen Rant had the pleasure of speaking to Goldblum, who shared his plans to take the whole family to see Jurassic World Dominion. The superstar also revealed his choice method of calming down a raptor and sang his newly revision Jurassic theme song.

Jeff Goldblum Interview: Jurassic World Dominion

Screen Rant: What is Jurassic World Dominion according to Jeff Goldblum?

Jeff Goldblum: Jurassic World Dominion, according to me, is the last wrap-up epic conclusion, as we say, to these six movies. All the Parks; all the Worlds. And I think it’s bigger and more exciting and more intense than ever.

We’re going to take our two kids. Emily and I have a seven-year-old and a five-year-old, Charlie and River. They’ve never seen a movie in a movie theater. June 10th, we’re going to take them. Our plan: stand in the back, or sit in the back of a hopefully crowded movie theater. And I hope it’s not too intensely scary for them, because it kind of set my heart pounding watching it. But we’re going to take them.

I love being in this movie. And of course, it was the reunion of me and Sam Neill and Laura Dern, who are two of our greatest actors and two of my best friends and people who have changed my life. I adore them. Steven Spielberg started the whole thing and is still the godfather of the whole endeavor. Colin Trevorrow wrote the script, along with Emily Carmichael, and is our great director. It couldn’t have been a better time for me, and I’m very proud to be in it.

I love that. Now, you know how Owen Grady calms down a dinosaur.

Jeff Goldblum: Yes.

He’s got his hand movements.

Jeff Goldblum: He does.

What would Jeff Goldblum do?

Jeff Goldblum: Sing to them.

I would go, “[Sings] When lonely feelings chill the meadows of your mind, just think when winter comes, can spring be far behind?” I would sing to him like that, and I think music soothes the savage beast. So, that would be my method.

How could that not work?

Jeff Goldblum: How could it not work? What did it do to you just now?

I was very calm. I forgot where I was. I almost fell asleep.

Jeff Goldblum: [Laughs] Yeah, it puts you to sleep. I know.

What’s your most treasured keepsake out of all the Jurassic films?

Jeff Goldblum: My cherished memories, of course, of working with Mr. Spielberg.

But on a materialistic level, for this last movie, I was thrilled about working on it; very happy to work on it. I thought, “What do I look like?” And we made this watch, which reminded me of the watch from the first one, a kind of black watch… And we made this [holds up watch], which is called Milgauss, which was designed for scientists to wear around electrical things so it doesn’t disturb them.

Then I had “I.M.” Ian Malcolm put on it, and there’s that logo right there on the inside of the watch that I thought Ian Malcolm might have. This might exist in that made-up world, because those events were so talked about, written about and world-changing. Anyway, I like that little watch.

It’s good to have something functional. You can wear it

Jeff Goldblum: I use it. I like it. I like to look at the time and that’s a heck of a thing. Maybe someday my kids will fight over it and rip it to shreds, figuring it out who wears it.

Now have you come up with lyrics to the Jurassic World theme yet?

Jeff Goldblum: [Sings] “In Jurassic World…” What rhymes with world? Pearled? “[Sings] I had my glasses pearled. This is the wrap up of the whole series.” I just did it!

And the wrap of our interview.

Jeff Goldblum: Fantastic.
