Jason Reitman Meeting With Possible Ghostbusters Leads This Weekend

Jason Reitman Meeting With Possible Ghostbusters Leads This Weekend

Director Jason Reitman is meeting with possible leads for his Ghostbusters sequel this weekend. The original Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II were both released in the ’80s by Jason’s father Ivan Reitman and fans have been waiting ever since for a true Ghostbusters 3.

Very little is known about Reitman’s Ghostbusters sequel at this point. The news of a new Ghostbusters movie seemed to come out of the blue last month and Reitman shocked the internet when a teaser trailer for Ghostbusters was released. This film will take place in the original Ghostbusters universe, making it a true sequel to the 1989 film. It was previously reported that Reitman was looking for teenagers for the lead roles in Ghostbusters and that certainly seems to be the case. Now, it looks like he will be one step closer to making some casting decisions after this weekend.

According to THR, Reitman will be meeting with teenagers this weekend for the lead roles in his Ghostbusters sequel. Reitman is apparently looking for four teenagers in total between the ages of 12 and 17. THR is also reporting that Reitman is looking to cast teenagers that are brother and sister duos for the lead roles.

Ever since the film was announced, fans have been wondering if the original Ghostbusters cast will be returning for the film. While Dan Aykroyd has remained hopeful for a Ghostbusters 3, Bill Murray has been less than enthusiastic about returning as Dr. Peter Venkman. Ernie Hudson has reached out to Reitman about his Ghostbusters sequel, but just like the other surviving cast members, it hasn’t been revealed if he will have a role in the film or not.

When the Ghostbusters reboot came out in 2016, many people didn’t even give the film a chance, either because it had an all-female cast or because they simply weren’t interested since the original cast only had cameo roles. This newest casting information seems to further suggest that Reitman’s Ghostbusters film will focus on teenage characters instead of the original Ghostbusters. Fans are being led to believe that Reitman’s film is the long-awaited Ghostbusters 3, but if the original cast doesn’t return in a bigger capacity than they did for Paul Feig’s film, fans could once again be left disappointed.

Regardless of whether the original cast returns in a small or big role, the fact that Reitman is meeting with actors this weekend is good news for the sequel. Ghostbusters is thought to begin filming this June, so if that is the case, the film will need to start getting its cast together relatively soon. Since interviews are happening this weekend, it’s possible that some concrete Ghostbusters casting information will become available soon.
